There should be a CBI probe against the CBI for not promoting staffers inside the agency: SC

THE Supreme Court Monday came down heavily on the Central Bureau Of Investigation (CBI) for its constant refrain about severe manpower deficit, saying the shortfall of investigators was the agency’s own making.

“There should be a CBI probe against the CBI for not promoting staffers inside the agency,” the Supreme Court observed while examining an affidavit submitted by the CBI on its cadre strength.

“You (CBI) have created the present situation because of your own apathy towards the problem on which you keep harping upon… This is not a happy situation,” said the bench of Justice T S Thakur and Justice C Nagappan.

The bench made the observation while hearing a petition of the CBI in which it said that due to shortage of officers, the agency would not be able to probe Saradha and other chit fund cases.
