Malai Nerathu Mayakkam-a movie review

Happened to see this selvaraghavan written film directed by Gitanjali selvaraghavan starring Wamiqa Gabbi

and Balakrishna kola.

Wamiqa plays a typical new generation upper class working girl having boy friends and partying type who

gets emotionally blackmailed by her mother into a marriage relationship with kola -a boy who because of

traditional parental upbringing is unable to

transact with any girl on his own initiative but requires fathers help for a settled marriage.

How both try to cope in a relationship with wide difference in background and upbringing is humourously

depicted. The girl is revolted by the boys behaviour, personal traits like snoring, leaving bathroom dirty to

rude behaviour on her chance meetings with her old boy friends. Kola is shocked that a married woman could

have had such a past with free interaction with boys and her love for partying. Both fast come to a

breakdown point when he tries to drink on a wedding anniversary matching her and ends up forcing

himself on her. After divorce and two years later they are reunited when they realise they care for each

other.

Wamiqa is brilliant as the sophisticated girl and kola got a debut he would regret to have in his film career.

Well made film keeping the audience absorbed and entertained. Music by Amrit should appeal to the

younger crowd.songs -sarakka, mora saiya, malai nrathu mayakkam are catchy.

A new wave film little different from what one gets to see in tamil cinema.

By the way chennai is hosting a tamil film festival from 6th jan along with a few foreign films.

will it bring cheer to chennai people after the rains?

I also heard some wonderful music on Vijai TV by fresh talent yesterday.

One girl singing gangai kara kottam .....'' melodiously with emotion moved me a lot.

Even the vaishnavite temple nearby at triplicane , there was music vocal performance .

Nice I hope locals can forget the bad moments of the past and move on.

Easy to say and difficult to come to terms with.
