Madras University confers doctorate to Sonia Gandhi

Madras University's Blackest Day

The University of Madras, one of the three oldest universities in India, will be celebrating its 150th anniversary tomorrow. Man Mohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi and Karunanidhi will be receiving their Honorary Doctorate degrees at a special convocation tomorrow to synchronise with the 150th anniversary celebrations of Madras University.

Tomorrow also happens to be Teacher’s Day.


Dr. Subramanian Swamy has issued this statement:

‘The decision of the Madras University to award an honorary doctorate to Sonia Gandhi who is not even high school pass nor has written any books of any worth nor has been an avid reader of books , is a further de-basement of the great University that was Madras University. This debasement had already plummeted when the Ramachandran became the Vice Chancellor and in a disgusting show of sycophancy, had prostrated in public before Karunanidhi while he on a post-breakfast pre-lunch fast against the Supreme Court stay of Rama Setu demolishing planned by him and Sonia Gandhi to deliberately hurt Hindu feelings’.

‘Ms. Sonia Gandhi who as a widow and financial beneficiary of Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination has shown the depth of depravity by electorally aligning with forces that aid and abet her husband’s killers namely the LTTE for some mysterious reason yet to be found out, was already in the dock for having falsifying on oath her educational qualifications by claiming to have studied in the University of Cambridge UK. She was let off by the Supreme Court on the ground of ‘generosity’ and the charge being of a crime committed ‘long ago’ i.e., three years stale. But recently a US Court was less forgiving where her minions claimed $100 millions from three Indians for attacking her for this perjury in an ad in New York Times. The lady judge dismissed their claim with the remark that if this charge was untrue then Sonia Gandhi must have the nerve to come to court and defend herself, which she has declined to do’.

‘Hence September 5th is a black day in the academic history of India, and the Madras University will become the laughing stock of the whole world forever. I urge the students and professors of the University to rise in revolt against this award for the sake of their own future reputation’.

"Man Mohan Singh’s contributions to the World of Economics and Economic Administration in India are too well-known in India and abroad. Likewise Karunanidhi’s great contributions to Tamil culture and Tamil development with emphasis on its ancient classical origins are also too well-known. Perhaps only the members belonging to her own (strictly private) Congress Party seem to be aware of the impeccable academic credentials of Sonia Gandhi. The rest of the common people of India are blissfully unaware of the scholastic, social and cultural achievements of Sonia Gandhi. The man in the street in India is putting this question to himself: ‘What inspired the authorities of University of Madras to treat Sonia Gandhi on par with Man Mohan Singh and Karunanidhi, during the final function of 150th Anniversary Celebrations of the University of Madras being held tomorrow?’


This common simple question plaguing the public mind becomes even more poignantly relevant when we take note of the fact that Dr Subramanian Swamy (A Doctorate in Economics from Harvard University and not Timbucktoo!) had filed a petition in the Supreme Court in 2007, alleging that Sonia Gandhi had filed a false certificate to the effect that she had graduated from the University of Cambridge in England. She had filed this false certificate at the time of filing her nomination papers for the Rae Barelli constituency in 1999. She again filed a false affidavit while contesting for the same constituency in 2004. Dr Swamy pointed out in his petition that Ms Gandhi had studied only language teaching course from a ‘teaching shop’ in Cambridge town. He said that since the mandatory filing of an affidavit regarding educational qualification arose only because of a Supreme Court judgment, no false affidavit could be filed by a person contesting for Parliamentary/Assembly elections.

In a shocking decision on this vital national issue, a three-Judge Bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justices B P Singh and G P Mathur asked Dr Swamy: ‘Should the Supreme Court go into all the affidavits to find out they are false or not. FURTHER INVESTIGATION IS NOT POSSIBLE INTO A STALE ISSUE AND IT SHOULD BE DROPPED.’

Immediately after this untenable judgement, in these very columns under the title ‘The Darkest Day in our Legal History’ I had commented as follows on 19-5-2007: ‘After the disastrous and wholly avoidable dark day of partition of India on the 15 August 1947, we as a nation sank to abysmal depths of irretrievable degradation yesterday which in my view is the darkest day in our legal history. All the patriotic and LAW abiding citizens of India owing their allegiance to the letter and spirit of the Indian Constitution are shocked beyond words by the fact that the Supreme Court has dismissed a special leave petition filed by Dr. Swamy. What has been completely overlooked by the Supreme Court in this case is the fact that Sonia Gandhi committed the offence of perjury when she wittingly dropped her claim regarding her bogus educational qualifications from Cambridge University in the Affidavit, which she filed before the Returning Officer of Rae Barelli Constituency in 2006’.

Yesterday it has become clear to all the decent citizens of India that our Prime Minister is an inveterate liar. He told the Lok Sabha on July 22, 2008 (where votes were purchased by him and his party for cash): ‘I confirm that there is nothing in these agreements which prevents us from further nuclear tests if warranted by our national security concerns’. Sonia and Man Mohan have joined together to barter away the sovereignty of India to USA forever. For this signal act of great sacrifice, they are going to be honoured by Madras University tomorrow."
