Madhya Pradesh High Court Employees Banned From Wearing Jeans, T-Shirts, Colorful Cloths

After judges and lawyers, it is now the turn of Madhya Pradesh high court employees to follow a dress code.

October 22, 2015

The high court administration has issued a circular (on October 16) directing its employees to be 'soberly dressed' during office hours. This for probably for the first time that the high court has issued such a circular putting a ban on what it considers inappropriate attire. The circular states that wearing jeans, T-shirts and bright-coloured clothes during office hours is against the decorum of the high court.

Court staff including personal secretaries, personal assistants, readers and stenographers have been asked to wear black trousers, white shirts and tie. "This circular has been issued to maintain the decorum of the high court. We have been asked to wear modest dresses and in sober colours," a high court employee TOI. Employees of the Jabalpur bench as well as those of the Gwalior and Indore seats would be under the purview of this circular. However, no distinction has been made in the circular for male and female employees. Also, no specific dress code has been prescribed for women.(Originally published in the Times of India)
