Kotilingeshwara temple
Kotilingeshwara temple is located in the village of Kammasandra, situated in Kolar district of Karnataka state. This place has the distinction of having one of the largest Shivalinga in the Asia measuring 108 ft (33 m). It is a 35 ft tall Nandhi, surrounded by lakhs of small shivalingas spread over an area of 15 acres. So far, around 90 lakh shiva lingas have been installed. The entire project involves the installation of one crore shivalingas of various sizes, hence the name ‘Kotilingeshwara’ came into existence. Koti means crore.
The main deity of this temple is Lord Kotilingeshwara. This Temple was constructed by Swamy Sambha Shiva Murthy. The Sahasra Linga is in the shape of a single Linga but consists of 1000 Lingas etched on a single column. The temple has two Naga Linga Flower Trees or Cannon Ball Flower Trees. The unmarried women pray with devotion and faith to Lord Lingeswara wishing for a happy married life and tie a yellow thread around the Tree.
The temple also houses Brahama (the creator), Vishnu (the protector), Ganapati, Rama, lakshmana, Sita and Anjaneya.
Devotees can offer their prayers to Lord Kotilingeshwara by installing Lingas. Everyday Poojas are performed to all the installed lingas at 6:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M. by 10 Priests along with Drums and Music by doing abishekam.
Festival: Maha Shivratri is celebrated in the temple with a lot of fervour. During Mahashivaratri, there are close to two lakh devotees who visit this place every year. The temple can be visited from early morning till about 9 PM at night.
