On the 24th November,2007, Karthigai deepam festival concluded at
Tiruvannamalai with lighting deepam at the summit of Arunachala Hills.
Tiruvannamalai is one of the panchabootha sthalas. On the full moon day
coinciding krithigai nakshathram in the month of karthigai, the deepam is

On the morning of deepam, when the moon is in Bharani star, the lamp is
lit in the Temple and in the evening the light is lit on the summit of the
hills. The philosophical significance is that the light is raised from
mooladhara to sahasrara. God, appearing as jyothi, dispels ajnana
and bestows jnana to the devotees.
