The head of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, Jayendra Saraswathi, 81, was admitted to a hospital at Vijayawada in an unconscious condition. Officials said the Pontiff was suffering from high blood pressure and lost consciousness while attending a function at a temple following which his disciples rushed him to the hospital.
He is currently on ventilator and is being treated for high blood pressure. Hundreds of his followers have gathered at the hospital to wish him a speedy recovery. The police have cordoned off the area anticipating an influx of more people.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had recently joined Jayendra Saraswathi in taking a holy dip in river Krishna at the commencement of the 12-day Krishna Pushkaram festival.
