Indian Express to start evening newspaper
After a spree of inaccurate news reports and fictitious stories, popular Indian newspaper, The Indian Express, has decided to launch an evening edition dedicated to providing clarifications for all the fictitious news reports in the morning edition.
The idea came about in a top level meeting at Indian Express that was originally convened to figure out ways to reduce instances of misreporting in the morning edition. “We spent all morning thrashing out ideas to improve the quality of our journalism when suddenly someone got up and declared that good journalism is passe and that we should look forward instead of backwards. ‘Fiction is the future!’ he said. It made a lot of sense to us. Soon everyone came on board, and we decided to embrace the inevitable instead of fighting it,” said top Indian Express official Ashwin Goenka.
“As for regular journalism, we decided to start a new newspaper ‘The Evening Express’ that would clarify all the errors in the morning edition. The evening newspaper will be the same as the morning newspaper; the same stories, but with clarifying facts instead of fiction,” Goenka added.
According to sources, the newspaper’s team of reporters, editors and other journalists will be moved en masse to the Evening Express. “Our regular newspaper, the Indian Express will be completely fictitious hereafter. We will drop any pretense of journalism whatsoever and declare ourselves as India’s first satirical print newspaper,’ Goenka beamed. “It makes eminent business sense. More and more people these days get their news from satirical reports. The morning edition will make people aware of current affairs and issues. Once they’re aware, they can look at the evening newspaper, which would give them facts on the same.”
“We are pioneering a new, first-of-its-kind 2-tier journalism!” Goenka declared proudly. Goenka further claimed that more and more media houses will follow suit in a few months, in order to tackle the onslaught of fictitious and satiric news websites. “There’s a popular saying – if you can’t beat them, join them,” Goenka chuckled.
However, there’s a small fly in the ointment. Since the team behind the proposed evening newspaper is the same as the one currently behind Indian Express, editors worry that the evening edition is likely to misreport the clarifying reports as well. Goenka has an answer for this though. “We will simply start a second morning newspaper containing clarifications on reports in the evening newspaper,” he winked.
