Nitin Gadkari

Nagpur:
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has claimed that he waters his plants in his Delhi bungalow with urine.

I collected urine in a 50 litre can. I called the gardener and instructed him to water some plants with it. There was such a big difference - it grew one and a half times bigger than the other plants, media reports on Tuesday quoted him as saying.

The senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader made the remark while speaking at an event on sprinkle irrigation systems in Nagpur on Sunday

Our country is associated with great heritage and culture since the Vedic Times! One of them is "Urine Culture". Any thing that comes from our Holy Cow is God sent, including the urine. Its merits have been discussed & written exhaustively by by all our Pundits - Practiced in Vedic rites - cannot be wrong and not be questioned attitude! Our former PM Morarjee Desai's daily early morning cup of tea was a tumbler of his urine filled to the brim! He was brand ambassador for "Urine therapy!"

In Modern days medicine we order Urine Culture for diagnostic purpose and not as therapy !

There seems to be a cultural twist or shock when Urine is forced down the throat as punishment for bed wetting by a girl child!! Urine if forced down a child throat is crime - of child abuse!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53sRowhfnYw

When certain Carbon compounds like Urea could not made in the Labs and believed they could only be got from live organisms they were named Organic compounds and their study became Organic Chemistry But it was Urea ( only source was urine then) was the first compound to be synthesized! Since subsidy is balooning up on urea Government may back this efforts & popularise Urine Harvesting fittingly named after him!

Cow-urine refinery inaugurated at Jalore

Jodhpur May 04, 2015

Rajasthan medical and health minister Rajendra Rathore today inaugurated a cow-urine refinery at Jalore.
The refinery, set up at Pathmeda Gaushala, will prepare cow-urine extract for use in the formulation of various products.
Rathore on the occasion emphasised on the need for large- scale research on cow products and their application in the treatment of various diseases.
“There is a pressing need that we explore the scientific concepts behind traditional medical practices and undertake research for treatment of various diseases by combining them with the cow products,” said Rathore.
A MoU to this effect has been singed between Jodhpur’s Dr S Radhakrishnan Ayurveda University and the Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at Bikaner.
According to Rathore, a by-product derived from cow-urine extract will be used for cleaning at the SMS Hospital in Jaipur. He also reiterated the commitment of the state government for the consumption of various other by-products.
Head of Pathmeda Gaushala, Dinesh Giri Maharaj, said that besides the cleaner, pesticides would be prepared using the cow-urine extract.
“This pesticide will be absolutely an organic product and would prove a boon for organic farming,” he said.
While calling for support of the cow-driven economy, he said that providing assistance to gaushalas and cow products should be a priority for governments so that cow-rearing could lead to economic independence.
Currently, the fibre obtained from cow dung is being used at two places, in Agra and Jalore, for running industries.
Maharaj added that if harnessed to its fullest, cow dung can also address the energy shortage.

As it is the Media is looking out for some masala to make a big news out of these sort of statements and I am sure they will make a mockery of this also and Niting Gadkari will be mocked heavily in the cyber world also by this . We all know how Moraraji Desai was made fun off when he was the PM due to his so called Urinie therapy .

I first heard of 'urine treating' the plants when I watched the show 'Extreme Cheapskates' in TV here. All those extremely, extremely frugal, cannot spare a penny to be spent star in that show. One such woman who owned a decent house once appeared and she, wanting to save on water bill, never used the toilet for passing urine (as she didn't want to flush) instead collected her urine in bottles and later disposed them off in the garden as she had heard that was good for the plants! Later in the show she dated someone and you could easily guess her condition #1 - not to flush the toilet but collect pee in bottles!

Some people I know take 'Gomutra' (Cow's urine) tablets for possible health benefits. Even that sounds ok than storing and pouring human urine over plants in the garden! So gross... Astrologically plants and trees are ruled by royal planets Moon and Sun respectively. So to me, it doesn't seem appropriate to wet them with 'urine'.

to escape the terrible odor while crossing that area!

So........ make sure you don't visit those 'urinated' gardens!! :bolt:

An interesting research paper is published on this topic in scientific american!

Gee Whiz: Human Urine Is Shown to Be an Effective Agricultural Fertilizer - Scientific American

Urine is chock full of nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus, which are the nutrients plants need to thrive—and the main ingredients in common mineral fertilizers. There is, of course, a steady supply of this man-made plant food: an adult on a typical Western diet urinates about 500 liters a year, enough to fill three standard bathtubs. And despite the gross-out potential, urine is practically sterile when it leaves the body, Heinonen-Tanski pointed out. Unlike feces, which can carry bacteria like salmonella and E. coli, urine poses no health risks—astronauts on the International Space Station even drink the stuff—after it's purified.

The nutrients in urine are also in just the right form for plants to drink them up, says Håkan Jönsson, a researcher at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala who was not involved in the beet study but has researched urine recycling for over 15 years. Food gives us nutrients like nitrogen as parts of complex organic molecules, but our digestive system strips them down into the basic mineral form that plants need—so "we have done half of the job," Jönsson says.

Gaddafi said this in a chat with farmers, in marathi. He has not made a policy statement or in a conference. Iallu yadhav had said this it will be treated as rustic wisdom.

To Gadkari:

What is the use even if the produce is enormous? Will your guests find the food palatable if you tell them it is from home garden with urinated plants? Or can you pluck the flowers and gracefully adorn the Lord with it?

So what Gadkari says is scientifically proven! May be it was tried small scale! For large scale to collect, store and transport read the paper

Immam persu Paathiya! with watering with urine - Imagine the size if top up bio fertilizer also added ! What is the experiance of our Minister - Has he tried that?

These Urinals Turn Pee Into Fertilizer For Local Food

More the merrier. Worth sending a mp delegation headed by gadkari to amsterdam. With euro certification, the not so innovative idea will get grudging approval. Link for the article with pictures at the end.

****

Amsterdam's urine alone can fertilize 10,000 football fields' worth of plants. Drink some water, quick!

Peeing in public isn’t usually a government-sanctioned activity. But a few weeks ago, Dutch officials lined up some not-so-private urinals in an Amsterdam park and invited local men to come and, well, partake. It was all in the name of the environment: Instead of sending urine straight down drains, the local water district wants to turn it into fertilizer for local farms.
Phosphorus extracted from the temporary park urinals will go to a green roof in the city. And today, the water utility will launch a new recovery plant designed to mine the phosphorus out of all of the wastewater in the region. Amsterdam's pee alone can fertilize 10,000 football fields' worth of plants, according to officials.

The idea all began because the phosphorus from urine was causing problems—it forms crystals, which were clogging local pipes. "We thought, if we have to remove it, why not do it in a proper way," said Peer Roojimans, who serves on the board of the water authority. "Phosphorus is needed for survival for everything in life, but it’s a limited product, and the mines are exhausted. Since everyone takes it with us every day—and supplies it to our sewage treatment plant when we go to the toilet—we wanted to develop a device that could reuse it."

After wastewater goes to the new recovery plant, the phosphorus and nitrogen from the urine will be separated, cleaned, and transformed into struvite, a slow-release fertilizer. New Dutch laws allow it to officially be used on farms starting on January 1.
Lest it seem that poo has been left out of the plan, Roojimans points out that the entire wastewater treatment plant for the Amsterdam area—which serves a million people—runs entirely on electricity that is produced from solid waste.

Though some question whether there's a truly a phosphorus shortage in mines, it seems pretty clear that reusing it from waste is a better way to have a sustainable supply. And now Amsterdam residents can be proud to know they're recycling every time they flush.
