Apple got Force-Touch on a Smartwatch first. It got Force-Touch on a Laptop first. But Huawei beat Apple to the punch by bringing Force-Touch technology to a smartphone.

Force-Touch, if you didn’t know, basically means that in addition to sensing your fingers, the sensors would sense the pressure with which you are touching. This opens up a possibilities of all new gestures (Touching with different levels of pressure in the same area can result in different things).

It is very much different from the touch and hold gesture in that it is immediate, and that there can be various pressure gestures, as opposed to only one touch and hold gesture.

The phone in question is the Huawei Mate S, which was announced today at IFA 2015. It has a 5.5 inch Full-HD display, along with an octa-core Kirin 935 processor developed by Huawei paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage expandable via microSD card.

It has a 13MP back camera along with a fingerprint sensor on the back and a 8MP camera on the front. Everything is powered by a 3000mAh battery.

Pricing and availability details haven’t yet been announced.

The Force-Touch is just about the only thing that makes this smartphone stand out. Is it enough of a differentiator?
