Virtual Reality for the masses is a dream that is still a bit far off. However, we can speed up the adoption process in one way: See the main barrier to popular VR, is price. While Virtual Reality doesn’t cost thousands of dollars, it is still hefty enough for one to hesitate. This is why many have proposed the solution of a Smartphone becoming a Virtual Reality Display with the help of a cheap Kit.

Everyone owns a Smartphone, and a cheap Kit could transform your Smartphone into a VR Powerhouse. This is why Google announced Cardboard, and Samsung announced its Gear VR last year.

Now, Google is teaming up with Mattel to release a more refined Google Cardboard, or perhaps more accurately, the 21st Century ViewMaster.
For those not familiar with it, the ViewMaster is a visor that enables you to see still images in “virtual reality”. Now, Google and Mattel’s new Product, also called the ViewMaster is a visor for putting in your Phone, after which you can experience a few select applications in glorious Virtual Reality.
Insert your Phone, connect with App and your are good to go.

It uses markers in the real world to transport you into Virtual Reality. For instance, a special dinosaur sticker would transport you into the corresponding prehistoric world. Currently, they have only a few planned, with your options being Paris, Alcatraz Island and the Solar System.

It would cost only $29.99, and those markers will cost $14.99 for a pack of three. It is only compatible with Android for now.

What do you think? Is this the thing that will propel Virtual Reality to new heights?
