God’s own country.

In Hindu Mythology Kerala was created by Lord Parasurama who is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Lord Parasurama was supposed to have used His axe on the sea to generate a land for the devotees to live peacefully. Since it is said in the scriptures that Kerala was created by Lord Parasurama, this land is called God’s own country.

There is a belief that the idol of Lord Krishna which is supposed to be kept in Dwaraka (drowned) in the North was kept in a temple in Guruvayur, Kerala. This happened on the advice of Guru and his disciple vayu. Hence, the name Guruvayur. Guruvayur is called as dwaraka of south India. From the above reasons Kerala is called as ‘God’s own country

Every nook and corner in Kerala you will see Hindu temples, Muslim mosques and Christian Churches; and unlike many other parts of India, people live happily without communal riots and great religious tolerance. Hence it is God's own country full of worship places!

Until the early 1980s, Kerala was a relatively unknown destination, with most tourism circuits concentrated around the north of the country. Aggressive marketing campaigns launched by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation—the government agency that oversees tourism prospects of the state—laid the foundation for the growth of the tourism industry. In the decades that followed, Kerala Tourism was able to transform itself into one of the niche holiday destinations in India. The tag line Kerala- God's Own Country was adopted in its tourism promotions and became a global super brand ( The slogan God's Own Country was first used in the context of Kerala in South India by Dr. Vipin Gopal when he created the first webpage on Kerala in 1993; this name was given by famous Malayalm Actor Mohanlal)

Kerala is a popular tourist destination for its backwaters, yoga, Ayurvedic treatments and tropical greenery. Kerala has the highest Human Development Index in India, comparable with that of first world nations but with a much lower per capita income. The state has a literacy rate of 94.59 percent, also the highest in India.

A survey conducted in 2005 by Transparency International ranked Kerala as the least corrupt state in the country. Kerala has witnessed significant migration of its people, especially to the Persian Gulf countries during the Kerala Gulf boom, and is heavily dependent on remittances from its large Malayali expatriate community

The Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple in Kerala could well be the richest in the country.
The national geographic channel has announced that Kerala is one among the ten paradises in the world. Kerala is one of the top 10 destinations listed in the Paradise found category in National Geographic Traveler.

Kerala is a part of India not a separate country, The term referring Kerala as “ God’ own country’ meaning green areas, mountain views, fields, streams, etc The serenity and divinity of Kerala has brought divine from the heavens on the ground and made it dance in eternal bliss with the locals.

In written records, Kerala was first mentioned in the Sanskrit epic Aitareya Aranyaka The 10th century BC ,speakers of the north-western India belong to Tamil language, shown the evidence that ancient Kerala and Tamil Nadu was part of Tamilakam and also onces shared a common language, tradition and culture. By the early 14th century, Kerala had become a linguistically independent region.

Thus there is no doubt on why Kerala is called as the God’s Own Country.
