What is the truth behind the mysterious death or suicide? of honest and upright IAS officer D.K.Ravi..Is it because he took on the high and mighty..Is it because he took on the sand mafia..Or is it because he took on the powerful Lok Sabha Congress leader when he refused to under value the purchase of property by his daughter? Or is because he planned raids on big businesses? Which is the true truth as now truth has got multiple shades of opinion that gets colored based on one's judgment!

BENGALURU: Amidst rising public anger over the mysterious death of upright IAS officer DK Ravi, several IAS officers in Karnataka have signed an online petition addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking a CBI probe into the matter but the government in Karnataka has so far refused to buzz and maintained that a CID probe was sufficient.

However, a signature campaign was being undertaken by "Uttishta Bharatha", a voluntary trust, which has created the online petition in which 13.58 lakh people have so far signed, the Trust said.

Speaking to PTI, Additional Chief Secretary (Environment, Forest and Ecology) Gopal said the case should be handed over to CBI for inquiry even as there are attempts from some quarters to assassinate the character of the upright IAS officer.

"The case should be handed over to an independent agency - CBI - even as there are attempts from some quarters to assassinate the character of the deceased IAS officer. There are attempts made to kill Ravi for second time. We will not allow it," he said.

The IAS officials, who signed the petition, are himself, Pankaj Pandey, Sameer Shukla and Srivasta Srikishna, among others, Gopal said.

Gopal, however, said in no way he was questioning and doubting the credentials of state-run investigating agencies. "This does not mean we, IAS officers, are against and suspecting the abilities of the state investigative agencies. They are able, but this case is of different genre and should be given to an independent agency," the IAS officer said.

35-year old D K Ravi, Additional Commissioner of Commercial Taxes (Enforcement), was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his room at his flat in Bengaluru on Monday, with police suspecting it to be a case of suicide prima facie.

Ravi's father Kariyappa, mother Gowramma, brother Ramesh and sister Bharthi said they want justice for their son, who had struck fear in the land and sand mafia and tax evaders.

"We only want a CBI probe. We want justice," Gowramma said, with the other family members also echoing the same, as the family hinted at "political pressure" on Ravi, who was found hanging from a ceiling fan at a room in his apartment on Monday evening, with government saying it was prima facie a case of suicide.

Meanwhile, opposition BJP leader Jagadish Shettar alleged in the Assembly that "an attempt is being made to hush up this issue. Only CBI can do an honest investigation in this case."

He said, "What we are conveying here is the anger and anguish that people are expressing on the streets of the state today but the government, instead of taking this seriously,is trying to mislead, they have taken this as a prestige issue."

"Until government orders CBI probe into the issue we will not withdraw our protest," he added.
