Everyone has a 'sacred cow': Horse slaughter banned in the US

New York, Oct 11: Everyone has his 'sacred cow'. Even the American who ridicules the Indian's opposition to cow slaughter. Only the American's 'sacred cow' is the horse. Horse slaughter is effective banned in the US through a convoluted budget tactic while two bills are pending before the US Congress to make it permanent.

While the bill for an outright ban works its way through Congress, the present backdoor horse slaughter ban works like this: The budget that was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Barack Obama last year prohibited the Agriculture Department from spending money on inspecting horse slaughter houses. Without inspections, the slaughter houses cannot operate legally and that effectively banned horse slaughter.

Twenty Republican and 50 Democratic Representatives jointly introduced a bill in the lower house in April for an outright ban on horse slaughter and its export for butchering. Two senators from each of the two parties followed suit the next month and the bills are pending in Congress.

In India cow is considered as a sacred animal. Therefore Hindus are in favour banning cow slaughter.
Is horse worship prevalent in US ?
I don't think so.
I presume that in US, the ban on horse slaughter is on some other context.

The horse is the vehicle of the Kalki Avatar..I am quite convinced Obama could be the Kalki Avatar.
Therefore he banned horse slaughter.

The American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals advocates ban on horse slaughter mainly to fight against cruelty to animals more particularly......................

Excerpt:

When we use the term “horse slaughter,” we are referring exclusively to the killing and processing of horses for human consumption. To be clear: Horse slaughter is NOT humane euthanasia. “Euthanasia” is defined as a gentle, painless death provided in order to prevent suffering. Slaughter is a brutal and terrifying end for horses and is not humane. Horses bound for slaughter—who may include pregnant mares, foals, and horses who are injured or blind—are commonly shipped for more than 24 hours at a time in crowded trucks without food, water or rest. Once they arrive, their suffering intensifies. The methods used to kill horses rarely result in quick, painless deaths, and some animals remain conscious during dismemberment. Due to the cruelty of the practice, and the historic role that horses have played in the development of our country and culture, the ASPCA is opposed to the slaughter of horses for human consumption.

Therefore he banned horse slaughter.

Then we should start building temples for Obama and the horse and start worshipping both. A horse slaughter may replace cow slaughter for the rest of kaliyuga!

Even though cultural reasons are the motivation, the anti-horse slaughter advocates present it as a health issue claiming that the medications given to horses can be harmful to humans. The legislators, who call call their measure Safeguard American Food Exports or SAFE Act, avoid the cultural or religious reasons and say that the proposed law is for health reasons.
