What is the fate of Srinivasan?

[h=1]CSK, Royals suspended from IPL for 2 years; life bans for Kundra, Meiyappan[/h]

July 14, 2015 13:48

The main highlight of Justice Lodha's verdict in the IPL scandal:

Former Chennai Super Kings former official Gurunath Meiyappan and Rajasthan Royals' co-owner Raj Kundra suspended for life from cricket.

'Former CSK official Meiyappan suspended for life for betting in IPL 2013,' declared Justice Lodha.

'Meiyappan ought not to have indulged in corrupt practices. Any person who has true passion for the game will not bet. Meiyappan was engaged in heavy betting, it was his bad luck he made no profits. Meiyappan's conduct affected the image of BCCI, IPL, the players and others associated with the tournament," he adds.

On Raj Kundra, he says: 'Raj Kundra suspended for life from being involved in any activities of the BCCI. After investigation it was found that Raj Kundra was placing bets through punters. Rajasthan Royals have damaged the faith of BCCI and the sport, Raj Kundra has been found guilty of misconduct. Raj Kundra is a first time offender but his misconduct has brought disrepute to the game."

However, the biggest news of the day was the suspension of the two former IPL winners -- Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings -- for a period of two years from the IPL.

"Gurunath Meiyappan acted with consent of India Cements. Propose to impose sanctions on India Cement's franchise by suspending it from the league for 2 years," said Justice Lodha.

"Jaipur IPL team can't shrink responsibility by saying Mr. Kundra acted in personal capacity. Its true that Mr.Kundra relinquished his shares from Rajasthan Royals in March, but it was too late," he added.

Saw this interesting tweet on the net and will not be suprised if this happens in reality :
BCCI can now quickly form two teams- Same owners can buy- Change name and have CSK / RR back in action.

This is terrible blow to our IPL season.
I team is CSK and my wife's team is RR,
So we may have fight free IPL season or no IPL at all.

The ruling of the judges might face a legal challenge in supreme court.
Some issues.
!. can a team be punished for actions of an individual?

2.how is father accountable for actions of a son in law?. Srinivasan has already said he is not responsible for actions of his son in law

3. why do players of the two teams have to suffer due to actions of one person ?

shares of india cements plunged on the verdict of the judges.

the issue has not ended.

what about sundararaman.? his fate also hangs in balance.

Many office bearers of Tamilnadu cricket association are srinivasan loyalists.

Can they continue?

They might also influence all matches in chennai if CSK is disqualified.

What about chennai public?

They would have nobody to root for.

we sure are going to have a bad IPL next year without the star teams.

indian public deserves better

I think India Cements is going to appeal in SC....Cricket should not suffer because of greed of some...But why is Lalit Modi chuckling..I am referring to the latest tweet...A wolf in sheep's clothing...His personal animosity against Srinivasan is well known...

There is a growing feeling allround that while the punishment to Gurunath Meyappan and Rak Kundra are justified but banning CSK and Rajasthan Royals for 2 years is not justified .Have to wait and see how these 2 teams and their owners will respond to this ban .

CSK and Royals Can Still Play

[h=1]The game matters most[/h]
The punishment handed out by a Supreme Court-appointed committee to teams and individuals involved in the betting scandal that hit the Indian Premier League two years ago ought to be welcomed by cricket fans and all those who cherish the game’s purity. The Justice R.M. Lodha Committee has slapped a two-year suspension on IPL franchises India Cements Ltd., which owned Chennai Super Kings, and Jaipur IPL Cricket Pvt. Ltd., which owns Rajasthan Royals. The action is essentially based on the involvement of Gurunath Meiyappan, a CSK team official, and Raj Kundra, a former owner of Rajasthan Royals, in betting activity, and in maintaining contact with bookies. The committee has carried out the orders of the Supreme Court which, in a January 2015 verdict, directed it to fix the quantum of punishment for Mr. Meiyappan and Mr. Kundra, and their respective franchises. Few will lament the fact that the two men have been suspended for life from any kind of involvement in cricket matches organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), but there will be anguish among many cricket fans over the punishment meted out to two key teams.

Then who played cricket to the tune?

I always have doubt about CSK's playing potential. Though the team is very strong with reputed players in its ranks, its approach in the crucial matches needs review.

Out of six finals, it won only on two occasions.

BCCI has in its ranks politicians of different parties, industrialists and their loyalists.

They are smart enough to pay lip service to judges verdict and find ways and means to get around it.

If it suits their interests ,they will hang together.

already one lawyer affiliated to BCCI says the verdict banning the two teams for actions of individuals is bad in law.and the ban on two teams will get challenged in

supreme court.

the next IPL is months away.

Surely a way will be found to get around the verdict .

I agree. This is a waste of a game which a poor country like India should avoid at all costs.

The reality is that a Poor country like India that too with a very high population of people below the poverty lines and also in the lower and middle income groups need hope and entertainment to keep them occupied . Religion and Political Promises provide them hope while Movies ( Bollywood , Tollywood etc etc ) and Cricket provide them with cheap entertainment through TV . This is the reality and you cannot wish it away and that is why scams after scams in both Politics and Cricket , people tend to stick to it .

Cricket and Bollywood provide the entertainment to the masses...

Of course. Both with the aim to mint money. Kids should also informed of to have this in mind.
