[h=1]Teen Killed Trespassing While Playing Pokemon Go[/h]

A Mariondale N.C. teenager was tragically shot and killed Sunday after trespassing onto private property while attempting to catch a Pokemon in the new gaming sensation Pokemon Go. There have been previous reports of injuries connected to players becoming involved in car crashes while driving and playing at the same time, but this appears to be the first fatality directly connected to playing the game.
15-year-old Arthur Digsby apparently left his house Sunday around 1 a.m., with a friend who was staying over, when the two friends noted a rare Pokemon had appeared in the nearby Pokemon list. The two friends reportedly left the house without notifying responsible adults, and started searching the neighborhood for the rare Pokemon. The friends apparently thought they had pinpointed the rare Pokemon, but could not get close enough to it, because it seemed to be inside a neighborhood home.
The deceased teenager’s friend reports that Arthur first circled the residence, triggering security lights as he attempted to get the Pokemon to appear. He then walked into an enclosed back porch of the residence, and when it still did not appear he started checking windows on the house and attempted to open them.
Homeowner Ellen Jones, a 67-year-old widow who lived by herself in the home, was awoken by the sound of someone trying to open her bedroom window. She then armed herself with a 9mm pistol that had belonged to her deceased husband. She then went to use the telephone to call emergency services where she was surprised by the teenager attempting to gain access to the home through an unlocked kitchen window. The widow panicked and shot at the teen twice, striking him both times.
The teenager was transported to an area hospital with two gunshot wounds to the chest where he subsequently died from the injuries. Mariondale police department has stated that no charges will be filed against the homeowner. Then police department issued a statement enjoining people playing the game to be sensible and respect private property boundaries at all times. Niantic, the company that created Pokemon Go, has not commented on the tragic shooting at this time.

Pokemon Go was downloaded more times in first week of release than any other iPhone app in history

The Pokemon Go bug is making youngsters do the unlikeliest things - from hitting treadmills to hanging out at temples and parks.

You see, this gaming app — which detects the user's location through the phone's GPS — makes characters from the '90s Japanese cartoon series 'Pokemon' pop up in the vicinity. It expects users to walk to search for these imaginary animals and later, train and battle them. You can play either by switching on your phone camera or in augmented reality mode. Seduced by this treasure-hunt-like promise and the hype of the app that is already bigger than the dating app Tinder, many young Indians have resorted to various hacks to download the game on their Android and iOS phones.

To their surprise, they've discovered that many of the Pokestops (places where you can collect items that would help you catch these creatures) and even the gyms (Pokemon battlegrounds) — are located at shrines. This is why commerce student Ameya Sawant, who used to visit only on Tuesdays has now started going daily. "I even play while at the gym," says the Prabhadevi resident, who has covered quite a distance both on and off his treadmill, reaching the nooks of Worli and Koliwada.

Pokemon Go leaves athletes unhappy in Rio

FOR ATHLETES AND OTHER VISITORS, NOT HAVING ACCESS TO THE GAME IS JUST ONE MORE KNOCK AGAINST
THE OLYMPICS

But no Pokémon Go? That’s an outrage! If there were ever a more “first world problem” for the Zikaplagued,
waterpolluted Rio Olympics, it’s Brazil’slack of access to the hit mobile game, which has united players the world over.
Since debuting to wild adulation in the United States, Australia and New Zealand this month, the game from
Google spinoff Niantic Inc has spread like wildfire, launching in more than 30 countries or territories — but not
Brazil.
For athletes and other visitors caught up in the wave, not having access is just one more knock against an
Olympics that officials are racing to get ready. The opening ceremony takes place on Friday.
“I wish I could run around in the (athletes’) village catching Pokémon,” New Zealand soccer player Anna
Green said. “I just can’t get it on the phone. It’s fine, but it would have been something fun to do.”
What will she do instead? “Train,” she replied.
Niantic didn’t reply to a request for comment on when the game might be released in Brazil. And though
social media rumours point to a Sunday release for the game, similar rumours in Japan resulted in heightened
expectations and the sense of delay before its debut there last week.
This week, British canoer Joe Clarke tweeted – with a brokenhearted
sad face – a screenshot of his player on
a deserted map near the rugby, equestrian and modern pentathlon venues in Rio’s Deodoro neighborhood. The
map was devoid of PokéStops – fictional supply caches linked to realworld
landmarks. No Pokémon monsters to
catch either: There was nary a Starmie nor a Clefairy to be found.
Players with the app already downloaded elsewhere appear to be able to see a digital map of their
surroundings when they visit Rio. But without Pokéstops or Pokémon, the game isn’t much fun. It would be like
getting on a football field – football to Americans – but not having a ball to kick or goals to defend.
“Sorry guys no #pokemon in the Olympic Village,” tweeted French canoer Matthieu Peche, followed by three
cryingface
emoji. Getting equal billing in his Twitter stream was a snapshot of a letter of encouragement from
French President Francois Hollande.
Many competitors in the athletes’ village took it in stride, though. Canadian field hockey player Matthew
Sarmento said it would give him more time to meet other athletes. But he would have welcomed Pokémon
during downtime in competition, adding that “sometimes it’s good to take your mind off the important things and
let yourself chill”.
