People in Tamilnadu had overcome their initial hesitancy and were ready to take the shots. The case of Tamil actor Vivek suffering a fatal cardiac arrest just a day after taking covaxin created a setback. There are reports (on the net) that in rare cases covid vaccine causes blood clots. Naturally, this fear spread.Even educated cannot be persuaded to be vaccinated.
Most middle class fear going to hospitals for treatment for corona
and preferring home isolation.
Medical experts say (on TV) that even if covid vaccine is not 100% effective, it can greatly reduce the severity of the attack in the sense that a vaccinated person may not suffer from acute shortage of oxygen levels etc. or other medical problems needing hospitalisation. To me this is the single most compelling reason to take the vaccination.
As to people fearing to go to hospitals for treatment, I think it is valid. I know of a family where the lady of the house developed a heart problem and needed a stent and had to be hospitalised. Her husband and son who had to spend a lot of time in the hospital contracted corona. In the case of the husband it became quite serious and he had to be hospitialised. Fortunately they are all fine now. This happened just 2 months back.
