Most scientists have this wrong notion (coming from the philosophies of Descartes) about consciousness.
They have this unfounded belief that somehow what is observed in nature rather indirectly (such as those established under the subject Quantum Mechanics) must apply to consciousness.
I am not sure how trustworthy the article is but the highly accomplished physicists quoted are actually clueless when it comes to topics of meta-science.
