As some people would be aware atleast in Iyers ( I am unaware about other sects) in earleir times for a boy child a cermony called as CHOWLAM ( Kudumi Kalyanam) was undertaken . How ever the practice has lost its significance over a period of time.

I would be greatful if some one could guide me as how to perform the same and whats the right age for the same , since I intend to perform the same for my son who is 18 months old ( 1.5 yrs )

Muhurtham-pre natal ceremonies,garbadhana,pumsvana,seemantha,soothika snana,Investiture of sacred thread

according to the Samshepa Dharmasasthram it should be done at the age of 3.5. That is six months after completion of 3 years. It should not be done if the mother is pregnant. This is according to Apsthamba Sutra.
