[h=1]‘Nada’ weakened….. now the unborn 'Vardah' is the only hope of this rain starved Chennai city[/h][h=1]Chennai looks up to Cyclone ‘Vardah’[/h]Chennai: Cyclone ‘Nada’ may have fizzled out without bringing copious rainfall, but there is hope that depression that is brewing close to south Andaman will bring in some hefty showers to Chennai and rest of the State in the coming days.
The city and suburbs received intermittent rainfall since last afternoon and more is likely going by what the weathermen say. Water managers Water managers said though the rains were scattered, they were appreciable keeping in mind the northeast monsoon’s poor shows this year. Also, they are pinning hopes on a new depression that is likely to form near South Andaman islands within the next 48 hours.
It is likely to be named ‘Vardah’ if it becomes a cyclone, as expected. "An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over Malay Peninsula and neighbourhood and extends upto midtropospheric levels. Under its influence, a low pressure area is very likely to develop over South Andaman sea and neighbourhood during the next 24 hours. It is very likely to concentrate into a depression in the subsequent 48 hours," director of AASU, Regional Meterological Department, Chennai, S Stella, told reporters today.
