  • The 2016 census in Canada said there are 157,000 Tamil people in Canada
  • But the community itself estimates they number between 200,000 and 300,000
  • In October 2016, the Canadian Parliament decided to celebrate January as Tamil Heritage Month

Canada has a sizable Sri lankan Tamil population migrated from Elam during the "ethnic cleansing" in 1983. Canada and Germany are two Countries that accommodated readily these unfortunate people when they were scattered aimlessly.
These hard working, and religious people took their cultural heritage and language where ever they migrated. These are the people who built Hindu temples in UK, France, Scandinavian countries, USA, Canada and Australia with their earnings.

Canada celebrates the month of January 2018 as Tamil month. The present PM is a friend of Tamils.
