Yes, the vratham can be done at home. Infact it is best to perform it at our respective homes. Following are some inherrent benefits that follows doing it at our homes rather than at the marriage hall. Doing it on an auspicious day, during auspicious time (barring dur-muhurthams) is possible only if it is done prior to marriage, say by a couple of days. If it is done on the preceeding day usually there is no possibility of avoiding inauspicious days...at best you may dodge between rahu kalams and yama kandam thats all. invariably it could be a saturday or a Tuesday or even a kari naal or an inappropriate thithi. ALso, alongside vratham, it is most important to perform a nanthi srartham. This is best done at our homes (In the function halls you may have the event manager team assisting you but it could fall short in aachaaram and madi) Better still if it is done with brahmana bojanam for the acharyas. Usually, it is to be done with brahmana bojanam... ever-since it became a practice to perform at the function hall on the day before marriage, with that as a convenient excuse, people have started truncating the nanthi to mere arisi-vazhaikkai or sometimes with veshti. Try the peace of mind of doing it at home with most of our aathu vadhyars' and team attending it. Especially if & when our aathu vadhyar is not travelling with us to the marriage being conducted at a diff town, this gives the kartha a right opportunity to do proper sambhavanai to the aathu bruhaspathi. If done just on the day of travel or a day before the travel we can also combine the yaatraa daanam along with the vratham+nanthi+brahmana bhojanam. Yes, this will cost a little more than doing it in an abridged manner at the mantapam.... but what you look for decides.Namaskaram
