Boy genius builds braille printer from Lego
The next time your kid is whiling away the hours with bits of Lego, leave him be.
There`s a good chance that Shubham Banerjee, a California seventh grader, did the same before he created a braille printer out of Lego for a science fair project.
Braille printers cost about $2,000 but Banerjee`s comes in at around $350.
That`s what he paid for a Lego Mindstorms EV3 kit along with a few dollars of hardware from Home Depot, cnet.com reported.
It says Banerjee took a basic, pre-existing pattern for a printer and reworked it with new software and hardware enhancements to print out letters in braille.

The Braigo's controller is set up to scroll through the alphabet, cnet explains. You choose a letter and it prints it out with tactile bumps on a roll of calculator paper. The print head is actually a thumbtack, which Banerjee settled on after also testing a small drill bit and a mechanical pencil.
Banerjee, who has relatives in Toronto, has also been featured on CNN, CBC, National Public Radio.
