Books on Hinduism and Hindu Religious practices


I would like to compile a list of Books on Hinduism and Hindu religious practices which would be helpful to all Hindus. I will be listing books with which I am familiar and have used in my Religious practice.


1. Vishnu Sahasranamam: The Best book in my opinion for parayanam is the one published by LIFCO. It gives detailed guide lines and also includes all the Bhashyams.

Sri Sahasranama Series


LIFCO is a treasure house of religious books. Founded by Sri. Krishnaswami Sharma, they have been doing a wonderful service for decades now. All of us are aware of the company and the Kainkaryam that they have been doing for decades.

I have a number of books on Sri Vidya and other Pujas written by ஸ்ரீ வித்யா ஞான பாஸ்கரா "நஜன் " (S. Natarajan) and Published by பிரதிபா பிரசுரம். These were written and published long back. The edition of this book is dated 1994. I bought it in 1994. They are all excellent books for Upasakas.

A must read for all Indians. Though it shows the extreme prejudice against Hinduism, the book throws light on Various aspects of Indian life in 1900 A.D.


2. The Wonder that was India - by A.L. Basham - Rupa & Co, New Delhi - The title says it all. Must read for all Indians.

3. India By AL-Biruni - National Book Trust of India

The famous Travelogue. Extreme prejudice against Hindus. But it throws light on India around 1000 A.D
