Former US President Bill Clinton is in Jaipur to take a look at the mid-day meal programme run by an NGO that feeds over a million school children everyday across the country.

Clinton will visit a kitchen run by NGO Akshay Patra in Jaipur's Jagatpura on Wednesday. It is the largest kitchen in north India that feeds almost 1.5 lakh people, including 1.25 lakh school children studying in 1,100 government schools in Jaipur district daily.

The NGO also provides food to about 20,000 anganwadi workers and 4,000 daily wage labourers at over 40 locations across the city every evening at a nominal price of Rs 5 per person. Besides Jaipur, it also has similar kitchens in Nathdwara, Jodhpur and Baran in Rajasthan. These kitchens are equipped with machines with a capacity to roll out 40,000 chapattis in an hour. The food is prepared without any human intervention.

Later in the day, Clinton will visit the Government Sanskriti School in Sanganer area to see food being served to students.

On Thursday, Clinton will visit Lucknow and go straight to Jabrauli village in the Mohanlalganj area. He will visit a school and a community centre that, through the Clinton Health Access Initiative, are providing health care training and information on treating diarrhoea, as well as educating mothers through self-help groups and school children through classes on lifesaving treatments.
