Bhubaneswar hosts the first street store in the country
The capital city Bhubaneswar is the first city in the country to host 'The Street Store', a clothing shop where the homeless and the poor could pick up the clothes of their choice without paying anything.
The concept was first mooted and executed in Cape Town in South Africa and spread to other parts of the world. So far it has already been organised in 33 cities across the world.
Bhubaneswar is the 34th city in the world to host The Street Store.
The Street Store, Bhubaneswar Curator Tanaya Patnaik said the event got an excellent response from both the donors and the beneficiaries.
After the shop was opened at 1000 hours this morning there was a beeline to grab the clothes and the footwear donated by people.
More than 600 people collected the clothes and footwear of their choice from the store by the time it was closed this evening.
Overwhelmed by the response Ms Patnaik said they planned to organise more such shop in other cities of the state and outside.
Ms patnaik also appealed to the people to organise such events in their locality for the benefit of the poor.
