Apollo Hospitals gives free medicines to old age homes

Chennai: Apollo Pharmacy and Apollo Hospitals Education and Research Foundation (AHERF) on Wednesday launched free supply of medicines to old age homes.

According to the press release, 15 old age homes will benefit from this project and receive free medicines for a year. Taking into consideration the health needs of the elderly, AHERF with the support from Apollo Pharmacy, will take the responsibility of providing medicines to the deserving old age homes in and around Chennai. As many as 703 elderly people will benefit from this initiative. Free medicines will be provided by the Apollo Pharmacy once a month, on receipt of monthly request from these homes.

'At Apollo Hospitals, it has always been our motto to make healthcare accessible to all. Apart from our business operation responsibilities, we believe we must contribute to our society, enhance our communities and positively impact the people we serve. The time and effort spent by both the teams in gathering data to help identify the most needy is indeed commendable', said Apollo Hospitals Group vice-chairman Shobana Kamineni.

The homes that will be benefited from this project were selected based on the response to a questionnaire that contained questions on the number of inmates, available facilities, funding assistance among the others. Few of the homes that were selected are Visranthi Home for the aged, Jeeva Jyothi Illam and the New Life Charitable Trust. Following the launch in Chennai, the AHERF is also planning to take this initiative to other cities soon, the release said.
