Ananthapura Lake Temple

In the northern tip of Kerala lies the Ananthapura Lake Temple, the only lake temple in Kerala. The rectangular lake, supplied with regular spring water, hosts this magnificent temple. It is considered the moolasthanam (original abode) of Lord Ananthapadmanabha, the deity of the famous Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram. This 9th-century temple is situated 30 km from Bekal in Kasaragod district. The temple is at a distance of 12 km from Kasaragod Railway Station.

Babia, the vegetarian crocodile and temple guardian, is popular among all the visitors. The lake is full of fish and people taking a bath before entering the temple, but the crocodile does not bother anyone. The crocodile is fed by the Temple Authorities. Its meal comprises huge rice balls mixed with jaggery.

I am planning a visit to this temple in the third week of December 2019. I shall also be visiting a few famous temples in South Karnataka.
