An Interactive Infographic About Wasting Time At Work

Just because you’re at work doesn’t mean you’re getting work done.

Excessive emails, pointless meetings and constant interruptions are huge culprits of time wasting at work according to Atlassian. They say that we lose 10 IQ points when we spend hours fielding constant emails, the same as missing out on an entire night’s sleep. Annual productivity costs per employee can be estimated at $1250 dealing with spam, $1800 sorting through unnecessary emails, and between $2100 and $4100 (poorly) communicating via email.

Meetings are another big time waster apparently. An average 62 meetings occur per month, which is about 31 hours of time that is considered wasted and unproductive. 91% of those surveyed said they daydream during meetings, 39% said that they had slept through a meeting, 47% complained and 96% had missed meetings all together. $37 billion is the amount of employee salary that is spent just in meetings in US businesses.

Interruptions are the third biggest problem. An average employee is interrupted and distracted 56 times a day. 80% of interruptions at work are considered trivial.

What can you do to make sure you waste less time at work?
