All universities have to fly national flag: HRD ministry

With our politicians playing subversive politics, some of the Universities are becoming a den for anti nationalist forces which are slowly rearing their ugly heads! Let the unveiling of our National Flag act as the new beacon of hope and peace! Let Universities be completely divested of rogue elements which are playing spoil sport with the education and lives of the budding students!

Just in: The HRD ministry has mandated that the national flag should fly prominently at all central universities. The first such flag will be unfurled at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, which is on the boil over the arrest of JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar for alleged anti-India demonstrations and sloganeering.

The decision on the flag was taken at a meeting of all central university vice-chancellors called by Human Resource Development minister Smriti Irani. The flag has to be hoised on a 207-feet high pole in all central universities across India.

It is a welcome step. Many of our forum members would have crossed 50 years of age. In those days, when we were school going students, daily flag hoisting, conduct of functions such as Independence day, Republic Day, Birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, Subramanya Bharathi etc., were truly inspiring and injecting patriotism in the young minds. Slowly these values are forgotten and at present, no political party is truly patriotic (to some extent BJP can be excluded). Students in Universities raising anti-national issues - to the detriment of our National pride and safety.

Kudos to the HRD ministry on this issue.

The spirit of the instructions contained in the relevant circulars of the HRD Ministry about the importance of hoisting the

national flag and giving due respect to it, is to remind all.

It goes without saying that "All" includes Modi also !!

In USA the biggest USA flags are flown at all foreign auto dealership, does it mean patriotism, hardly?
In usa there is no restriction on flying flags as opposed to India, where there are restrictions.
If I remember it correctly in India a flag must be hoisted by sunrise and taken off by sunset.

hi

in USA..many are using as underwear/t shirt using with american flag....even many caps having american flag...

It is a good suggestion. National Flag is the only symbol in India which reminds us of the National Unity.
Politicalization of students Unions is unfortunate. The happenings at JNU and few other Universities in
the name of freedom of speech are disturbing. I hope sense of responsibilty to the citizens who had
elected will prevail on the Members to run the Parliament smoothly as envisaged by the rules
of procedure.
