Malabar English Dictionary_0004.jpgMalabar English Dictionary_0008.jpg While browsing the internet I found a gem under the name "A Malabar and English Dictionary". In fact it is a "தமிழும் இங்கிலேசுமாஇருக்கிற அகராதி" wherein the words and phrases of "the Tamulian language" commonly called by Europeans the Malabar language, are explained in English, by the English Missionaries of MADRAS. Printed at WEPERY, near
Madras in the year M.DCC.LXXIX (1779).,

A Rare Book - Tamil English Dictonary.

Brahmanyanji,

You did not give the link. Please give it.

Sri "Vaagmi",

Interestingly I lost the link from where I got the information! How ever it is available in the following web-link
which is the second edition (1809) of the book:
https://archive.org/details/tamilumaiakilcu00simpgoog
I shall go through the net again and find out the fist edition and post it in the Forum.
From the information gathered it seems this is the first Tamil-English Dictionary composed and printed.
A copy is the same is kept in National Library, New Delhi.

Brahmanyan,
Bangalore.

PS: I got the link of First edition here it is:
