[h=1]40,000 Iraqis stranded on mountain as Isis jihadists threaten death[/h] Members of minority Yazidi sect face slaughter if they go down and dehydration if they stay, while 130,000 fled to Kurdish north

Tens of thousands of members of one of Iraq's oldest minorities have been stranded on a mountain in the country's north-west, facing slaughter at the hands of jihadists surrounding them below if they flee, or death by dehydration if they stay.

UN groups say at least 40,000 members of the Yazidi sect, many of them women and children, have taken refuge in nine locations on Mount Sinjar, a craggy, mile-high ridge identified in local legend as the final resting place of Noah's ark.

At least 130,000 more people, many from the Yazidi stronghold of Sinjar, have fled to Dohuk, in the Kurdish north, or to Irbil, where regional authorities have been struggling since June to deal with one of the biggest and most rapid refugee movements in decades.

Sinjar itself has been all but emptied of its 300,000 residents since jihadists stormed the city late on Saturday, but an estimated 25,000 people remain. "We are being told to convert or to lose our heads," said Khuldoon Atyas, who has stayed behind to guard his family's crops. "There is no one coming to help."

Another man, who is hiding in the mountains and identified himself as Nafi'ee, said: "Food is low, ammunition is low, and so is water. We have one piece of bread to share between 10 people. We have to walk 2km to get water. There were some air strikes yesterday [against the jihadists], but they have made no difference."

Sad part is, the whole world and UN are silent on yazidis, but make huge noises on gaza. Here, our indian friends make huge noises on pune techie's death, but silent on sutanpur deaths. No effort at evacuation of yazidis either by UN, europe, USA or neighbouring countries.

There was a programme by srinivasan jain in ndtv; hamas were assembling a rocket near the hotel the reporter stayed and even a video was shot. The rocket was fired from a densely populated area with hotels, hospitals and houses and there will be heavy loss of life it Israel retaliates.

The appeasement dharma of whites and fellow muslims is difficult to comprehend.

The crocodile tears shed by some anti-muslim Rss cadre seems totally ingenuous. Just because they are being persecuted by some other islamists these muslim baiters are hollering.
Let us see who these Yazidis are?

The Yazidis are linked to the extreme Shi'a (Ghulat) sects and number worldwide some 300,000 people. The main group of 150,000 Yazidis live in the Jebel Sinjar mountain and the Shaikhan district of northwest Iraq. At least 50,000 Yazidis live in the former Soviet Union (Armenia and other Caucasus states). They were also to be found in South-East Turkey around Diyarbakir and Mardin (10,000) but most emigrated from there to Germany in the 80s. They also live in Syria in and around Aleppo (5,000), and in parts of Iran. An estimated 50,000 have emigrated to Western Europe, mainly to Germany, in search of asylum and employment.

I am against all ethnic persecution, particularly against persecution of any minority (religious, ethnic, race, etc ) by majority.

Obama considering Iraq air strikes: report

[h=1]Obama considering Iraq air strikes: report[/h]
August 08, 2014 02:02

President Barack Obama is considering ordering US air strikes against Sunni extremists in northern Iraq and humanitarian food drops to beleaguered civilians, reports said today.

US media, citing senior White House officials, said Obama was weighing military options after jihadists from the so-called "Islamic State" attacked Christian and Yazidi minority communities.

"There could be a humanitarian catastrophe there," an official told the New York Times, warning that a decision on military action was expected "imminently - this could be a fast-moving train."

Obama came to office determined to end US military involvement in Iraq and in his first term oversaw the withdrawal of the huge ground force deployed there since the 2003 American invasion.

But recent rapid gains by the Islamic State, a successor group to Al-Qaeda's former Iraqi and Syrian operations, compelled him to send military advisors back to Baghdad evaluate the situation.

The United Nations Security Council was to hold emergency talks on the crisis later today, and France has pledged support for forces "engaged in battle" against the ISIS radicals.

[h=1]Will US be able to save the Yazidis from annihilation? Hope better sense prevails on the ISIS atleast now? Otherwise it will be a long drawn war?

U.S. Warplanes Carry Out Airstrikes on ISIS Militants in Iraq[/h] Nightly News

The United States launched another round of airstrikes against ISIS in Iraq Friday, using drones and a fighter jets to attack a mortar position and vehicle convoy near Erbil, the Pentagon said. The strikes came a day after they were threatened by President Barack Obama.

A drone struck a mortar position twice at around 10 a.m. ET, killing ISIS fighters who returned to the site after the first attack, Rear Admiral John Kirby said in a statement. About an hour later, four F-18 fighter jets dropped a total of eight laser-guided bombs on a convoy of seven vehicles and a mortar position, destroying both.

Earlier Friday, two 500-pound bombs were dropped by two Navy F-18 fighter jets at a target also near Erbil, the strategically important city that serves as the Kurdish capital, and where the United States has a consulate. ISIS was using the artillery to shell Kurdish forces defending Erbil, the Pentagon said.

The fighter jets took off from the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush, in the Persian Gulf. After the first strike, the warplanes returned a short time later to hit the target a second time. The mission marked a return to U.S. military engagement in Iraq, three years after Obama removed U.S. forces.

Obama, in a speech Thursday night from the White House, said that he was authorizing airstrikes to protect American interests in Iraq and drops of food and water for tens of thousands of refugees trapped by ISIS on a mountain in Iraq.
Kirby, a Pentagon spokesman, said Friday: “As the president made clear, the United States military will continue to take direct action against ISIL when they threaten our personnel and facilities.” ISIS and ISIL are acronyms to describe the same Islamic militant group.

Pathetic delusion of Himalayan proportion. Makes one wonder whether kapalam is empty or full of unmentionable.

Typical hindu hate mindset to spill bile.

Let us see who are Hindus. They live in USA, canada, Australia, and in many other European and Asian countries. They have minimal rights even in India though it is claimed that 80% of population claim to follow hindu faith. Some Hindus, called pundits are refugees in their own country and many still in refugee camps for twenty years. It is not seen as a problem when hindu population in Pakistan and Bangladesh is close to extinction. If any timid hindu raises his voice he is labeled as communal and scorned.
Sure, Hindus have a lot to be thankful because generous sada log let them breathe.

Let USA be careful; distance will be of no help if mischief makers are in different guises, even with hindu names!

US allies cultivated Islamic State. Now IS plans to 'raise flag of Allah in White House'

“I say to America that the Islamic Caliphate has been established,” Abu Mosa, a spokesman for the Islamic State (IS), formerly know as the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), told VICE Media. “Don’t be cowards and attack us with drones. Instead send your soldiers, the ones we humiliated in Iraq."

“We will humiliate them everywhere, God willing, and we will raise the flag of Allah in the White House,”
Mosa added.

“But while the Islamic terror group du jour rips through Iraq - largely forcing minorities to choose its brand of strict Islam, flee, or die - observers note that it’s important to remember how IS has gained strength from the financial backing of United States’ allies in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar.

“The United States has also supported so-called “moderate” Syrian rebels with both lethal and non-lethal aid, lending to fears that arms sent with the help of the Gulf states were channeled to the likes of IS.

And usa nurtured, funded and armed ISIS for war in Syria.

Not true. This is exactly why the US has stayed away from arming the anti-Assad rebels instead of foolish people from all around the world calling on the US to do so.

Surely you dont believe Russia Today is a source of truth!

Thanks for the clarification. But, is there any source which says that USA did not support and arm fringe groups in middle east. There was a report elsewhere that Obama did not directly name ISIS and made a circuitous reference. And america has a well known bad reputation for supporting anti establishment forces, many islamic.

Some members of an Iraqi minority community on the run from ISIS militias have reportedly escaped the mountains where they had been stranded, but thousands more may still be in danger.
Several thousand Yazidis were reported on Saturday to have reached safety in Kurdish-controlled areas of Iraq and Syria. Yazidis -- who follow an ancient religious tradition linked to Zoroastrianism -- are regarded as heretics by the extremist Islamic State group that has seized territory across Iraq and Syria. The Yazidis fled the militants' advance earlier this week, but thousands found themselves trapped in the Sinjar Mountains in Northwestern Iraq, where many died of dehydration rather than risk being slaughtered by ISIS gunmen below.
Kurdish officials told the Associated Press that Syrian Kurdish fighters opened a safe passage from the mountains Thursday night, allowing some 20,000 Yazidis to make their way toward refuge in Syria.
Kurdish TV station KurdSat released footage it said showed Saturday's rescue of families in the mountains.

And none of the neighbouring muslim countries have raised voice or hand against this massive genocide. Obama says american troops will not be involved in ground action and intervention limited to selective aerial drone attacks and food drops. Hillary blames obama's foreign policy for the present crisis. As far as we are concerned, clinton is a pakistan supporter and has worked against india's interests.

Ruthless and barbaric ISIS militants have executed 500 Yazidis..Some are dumped and buried alive...There seems to be no end to the atrocities on the hapless yazidis
