It was believed that kiss originated from Egypt. In order to know whether a person had consumed liquor, this practice came into existence.

I feel a Kiss is Universal.

A kiss is a unique act cos its actually not easy to kiss anyone..we need to connect with the person in order to kiss.

Even if its a One Night Stand..there still needs to be at least some chemistry to kiss.

Sex workers do not kiss their clients mostly cos there is no emotional connection.

I have read before that a kiss between 2 adults sexually attracted to each other is mainly natures way of obtaining genetic data for compatibility for continuation of species and that is why only at the beginning of a relationship people tend to kiss more.

Once the relationship is steady enough kissing is less cos by then most couples would have got enough genetic data via salivary exchange.

But how far this is true could be still subject to debate cos even homosexuals kiss(BTW they are more passionate!)..and even if they obtain genetic data of each other..there is no continuation of species in their case.

So that goes back to the question..why do we Kiss?

But who cares to know the answer?

Why be too technical in everything and miss out the Bhakti and Bhava of kissing.

Whatever you are going to say kindly "Seal it with a Kiss"!

Really it is a post mortem " lol "

yes..its is!LOL

But when we kiss anyone..even in a non sexual way like kissing a person on the forehead I think becos of the warm body of a human a kiss makes us feel good.

But the same is not felt when we kiss the forehead of a deceased person for the very last time..there is no lingering warm feeling..only the iciness of death..that is the only time when coldness can thaw our heart.

Kissing isn't universal, though it does pop up in some 90% of cultures. Darwin himself noted that there are cultures in which kissing is conspicuously absent.
It is unknown with the [Maori] New Zealanders, Tahitians, Papuans, Australians, Somals of Africa, and the Esquimaux [Eskimo].

For one thing, other species kiss as well. Chimpanzees do it in order to reconcile following a fight, and bonobos do it with some tongue as well.

In a 2008 issue of Scientific American Mind the writer Chip Walter argued, citing British zoologist Desmond Morris, that kissing may have originated from the primate behavior of pre-chewing food and passing it to the kids. Chimpanzee mothers, for example, are known to chew food and before swallowing they press their lips to the lips of their youngsters to allow the food to pass into their mouths. The pressing of lips may have then become a general means for relieving anxiety. Basic classical conditioning would suggest that by pairing lip stimulation with food, simply touching the lips would eventually trigger feelings of pleasure. Add to that the overabundance of nerve endings in the lips, and you have the recipe for ecstasy.

Not everything originated in Vedic cultures. I know currently is is a fad in India particularly with India-zeolites to claim everything. I am proud of our ancient culture, but it had its limits.
