Pongal and Tamil Years beginning starts at uttarayanam day ie winter solstice dec 21/22 now due to precession of earth as per astronomy.Hopefully our learned acahryas ,govt change it.Already Shri Mu Ka brought the date to Jan 14,wish someone had explained modern astronomy as well.In fact all our astrology with ayanamshas corrections is based on astronomy only.My 2 cents observation.
