TSS,

is this not going to the extreme? while this will definitely bring tears in the mothers who hear it, and make the dils and girl-friends squirm,
i think this is a clever ploy, to ensure, that the son, walks the straight and narrow path, and marry the girl mummy has selected for
him.

how many people in real life, have we met, who egg someone to kill another. particular in order to establish a relationship? not even in
the ether filled movie world, we see such values.

one might want to say, that kannadasan is using his poet's licence to explain the sanctity of motherhood.

there is also a flip side, which is more prevalent, as we all know atleast one case. of a overly possessive mother, who has destroyed the
marriage of her son, to a perfectly decent girl. no?

It is doubtful that today's motherhood can claim any such pride of place; not at least a few of them. Somebody has seen the devil in this post. Yesteryear mother was only a giver, today's mother is different, a taker and giver, mother all the same. Yesterdays mothers were generous but today's are just "right". All of us are stubborn to think that it cannot be otherwise. Please remember we are only talking of mother, and not her husband. We will change the old and the coming new will change us when we become old. Modern life has made us all individuals. After all, we are all individuals, including the mother.

Dear Sri Iyyarooraan ji,

Mothers of yesteryear had different operating models. Mothers today have OPMs based on today's culture and expectations. Mothers of tomorrow will have different OPMs, based on tomorrow's culture.

But what will never change is a mother's love for her off springs, because that is rooted in nature and not on a changing culture.

Regards,
KRS

All the things may change in the World, but Mother's love will be the same.
The following song in the Tamil Motion Picture "Mannan" aptly describes the beauty of Mother:

Mother is not only pious but she has a unique role in the family. One can imagine, what
a mother can give to her affectionate child, whether it is boy or a girl or more than one in a family,
and to what extent which she can give, everything all depends very much entirely on
that i.e. which she can receive generally from her relationship with her Spouse. As we all know
the mother in the family has many roles. She is not just our mother only, a cooking woman,
nutritioner, educator of the child in all aspects including school education, sometimes a doctor,
why even a role of nurse, if an unemployed - a house keeper and care taker etc. and so on.
There are no words describe the role of Mother, which is an incomparable position in a family.
The Mother's role does not end with the son or daughter getting married and the role does
not end, it continues, continues....

Namaste Shri KRSji - I agree with you. I would like to believe in what you say. But numerous new borns thrown in kuppaithotti' tell a different story. Whatever the reason mostly a mother would only have thrown the new born in the heap of garbage. The father could have killed both. Out of wedlock or illegitimate, the mother still remains the mother. However unfortunate it might be, throwing the new born could not be an act of mother hood. I am always aware there are many mothers who have accepted handicapped, retarded and infants of total liability who deserve a national salute. It is like this that the coin of motherhood has two sides, too. Yet, mother is a supreme human or animal being.

I totally agree with you about the motherhood and the mistakes of such women. But then..
An illegitimate child is a child born of a woman, the father of which is not the husband of the
woman, hence the child does not bear the father's name. The child is born consequent upon
sinful sexual conduct. Some of them, may be, teenagers. Sometimes, may be owing to their
unexplainable situations because of their hidden contacts with the other person(s) pressurises
or traps them with or without intention. Why, we hear lot of talk these days on the subject
of abortion of such cases. Parents weep many tears, where did we go wrong and why should
that happen to us.

To discard a hapless life or throw it to certain death is inhuman only because nobody has a right to take a life. The life was not given either by mother or father. Kunti of Mahabharata was a bad precedent but there was no hate on the child but more than that she loved herself and her life. Ultimately, nobody suffered as much as she did.

Mothers are women essentially, and human beings at that. Their actions and attitudes are shaped by society, time period in which they live/lived, and the circumstances of each case.

imho, there is no such special thing called mother's love; if at all somethings are considered as "mother's love" they are at best products of social compulsions and needs.

Nowadays, children are becoming more and more like valuable possessions of the mother; if it is creditable and offers prestige to the mother (good-looking, smart and lovable baby), the child is rated high, otherwise not. The role of the well-to-do mother of today is to take her well-dressed and adorned child from the babysitter/nanny/aayaah in the car and show it off to others as one of her precious possessions — like her BMW car, her diamond necklace costing crores and things like that. Once back at home, the child goes again into the hands of the caretaker. (Women who don't have children take similar attitude towards their pet cat/dog.)

Now a days women get paid handsome amount to become pregnant with children
of couples who are not able to conceive on their own, owing certain physical
problems, are named as surrogate mothers. In fact, surrogacy has become a
routine feature and it has turned out to be a commercial activity in India and it
is termed as Outsourcing Pregnancy. IVF is used to transfer and implant the
embryo into the womb of a surrogate woman. Later, after the child's birth
breast feed to the child becomes an untold problem and in turn the child suffers.

I am told that Countries like Canada and Newzeland, Govt there have very strict
rules on surrogate motherhood and IVF methods process. But in India..
Such a child, later unless it is told, only adopted mother becomes his/her mother.
