Paul Therous has written two fascinating books (set apart ting 30 years)
about his train journey starting from London and ending up London going through various countries including India (including Chennai)

Russia by Rail Setting off from Moscow

Seven time zones, nearly 6,000 miles, and a lot of tea and borscht. That only begins to describe the long journey by David Greene, NPR's Moscow correspondent. He's been in Russia for just over two years and for his last reporting trip, he's riding the Trans-Siberian Railroad from Moscow to Vladivostok.
While crossing the world's largest country and bridging two continents, he'll make stops to capture the mood and the culture of Russia at an important milestone, two decades after the fall of the Soviet Union.

 
ஜப்பானியர்களின் தேச பற்று அனைவரும் அறிந்ததே...

ஒரு முறை ஆனந்த விகடனில் மணியன் ஆசிரியராக பணியாற்றிய பொழுது ஏராளமான பயண கட்டுரைகளை நான் படித்து இருக்கிறென்.அவர் ஒரு முறை ஜப்பானிய ரயிலில் ஜன்னல் ஓரமாக அமர்ந்து பயணம் செய்த பொழுது ரயிலில் எதிர் சீட் காலியாக இருந்ததாம்.

நமது ஊரில் செல்வதுபோல் எதிர் சீட் காலியாகத்தானே இருக்கிறது....! என்று ஹாயாக காலை நீட்டி எதிர் சீட்டில் வைத்துகொண்டு பயணித்து வந்தாராம்.

உடனே ஒரு ஜப்பானியர் வந்து எதிர் சீட்டை துடைத்துவிட்டு இவரது காலை எடுத்து தன் மடியில் வைத்து கொண்டானாம்.

ஒன்றும் புரியாத மணியன் ," சாரி " சொல்லிவிட்டு காலை மடக்கி கொண்டாராம்.

உடனே ஜப்பானியர் சொன்னானாம். " நீங்கள் எங்கள் நாட்டு விருந்தாளி. உங்களுக்கு அசௌகரியம் ஏற்படாமல் பார்த்து கொள்வது ஒவ்வொரு ஜப்பானியரின் கடமை.எனது பேண்ட் அழுக்கானால் பரவாயில்லை.ஆனால் இந்த ரயில் எங்கள் நாட்டின் சொத்து.அதனால்தான் உங்கள் காலை எடுத்து என் மடியில் வைத்துகொண்டேன் " என்றானாம்.
