    Medical Education

Medical education standards in the country are falling by the minute with medical colleges springing up in various nooks of the developed regions.... the exorbitant fees are apalling but even more astonishing fact is the willingness of various families to pay such amounts..... an average mbbs seat in a private medical college requires one to shell out a minimum of 20 lakh rupees under the most generous circumstances.... most of these medical students tend to be girls(no bias meant). even in the college where i studied the current batch consists of 14 boys and 86 girls........i wonder if the same applies to other states? the sad part is that majority of these graduates take up this profession and have no clue as to what lies ahead and why to be a doctor...... such ideas need to be implemented in school level.....something that we all know does not happen in India.... I have never heard of any indian School going to the extent of giving proper career guidance to the school children...... and the age old trend of having one doctor and one engineer in the family keeps on going despite the multitude of career oppurtunities available in the world today!

    Shri venks,

In kerala the medical seats are practically for those who can shell out Rs.30 lakhs and more. They also ensure that their wards go for pg medicine and get into some noted hospital. Private doctors tend to build polyclinics or hospitals in association with some of their ilk but since their investment in education, clinic/hospital is huge, the cost of treatment is astronomical.

We do not find many general physicians coming out of the medical colleges nowadays. Most are specialists in one thing or another.
