    Fuel Price Hike

The present UPA Government is trigger happy to hike fuel price at frequent intervals and the recent hike of LPG, Diesel and Kerosene is really severe blow to the middle class people and also for the people in the lower rung. The common man is hit by this cruel price hike not only directly but also indirectly due its cascading effect it has on the economy. When people are struggling already to have a decent living due to reeling inflationary condition prevailing in the country, the insensitive government is concerned only with the dwindling revenues to the oil companies and its own coffers. If the government only cares to bring back the black money stashed in foreign land by political goondas and social enemies living in the country, the hapless citizens could be saved from this type frequent cruel blows.

    sridharan,

i think the UPA govt has little control over petroleum prices.

the prices are a function of several international factors, which are beyond the control of any one single country or group.

unfortunately, india has to import petroleum, and has to pay the increasing world wide price. still, the petroleum price is subsidized. it is the biggest direct subsidy by the central government, afaik.

one thing is guaranteed. the prices will only go up, as this is a depleting resource. new petroleum finds are in far away places or deep beneath the sea. they take a lot of effort and money, and hence passing on the cost to the end consumer, is but inevitable.

the solution? electric cars, in my opinion. the chinese are spending money in a big way, and i hope they succeed in mass producing, cheap cars with efficient rechargeable batteries. cant wait for this to happen. till then, patience. and bite the bullet.

    Mr.Kunjuppu
I totally agree with your observation that the government has little control over international fuel price and India has to depend on imported fuel. The point is the government has done nothing to audit the functioning of oil companies, the carrying and distribution losses they are incurring and other avoidable losses which are in total passed on to the customers.Needless to say, if the government repatriates the black money stashed in foreign banks, the interest earned thereof itself will more than offset the subsidy given to the public. At least the government, would be in a position to soften the blow being given to the middle class people periodically.
