The cow transforms grass and gruel into sweet strength-giving milk and gives it away in plenty to its master. Develop that quality, that power to transform the food you consume into sweet thoughts, words and deeds of compassion for all. When your heart is filled with virtues, the Lord will shower His Grace abundantly. Draupadi earned the Lord’s Grace through her devotion and virtues. Without steadfastness and depth of faith, none can receive Grace. Endeavour to earn Grace by observing the discipline that I am keen you should follow. Give up your old worldly ways of earning and spending, saving and accumulating with greed, lust, malice and pride. Do not waste time in idle gossip. Talk softly and sweetly, and talk as little as possible. Serve all as brothers and sisters adoring the Lord in them. Engage in sadhana; move every step as befits a person striving to realise God.
    – Divine Discourse, Jan 11, 1968.
Practice sadhana relentlessly to discipline your mind and to develop
your moral and mental strength. - Baba

God is immanent in the world. So treat the world as lovingly as you will treat your Master. Serve, whatever be the obstacle or the cynical ridicule you may attract. The torture that his father inflicted to turn his mind away from God helped to bring out the unflinching devotion of Prahlada. The wickedness of Ravana served to reveal the might of Rama's bow. Traducers like Shishupala, Dantavakra, Ravana, and Kamsa are inevitable accessories of every incarnation. When you attempt to cultivate and share virtues, selfless love and fortitude, trouble and travail will naturally follow. You must welcome them, for without them the best in you cannot be drawn out. If gold was as plentiful as dust or diamonds as easily available as pebbles, no one would care for them. Remember, precious metals are won after enormous exertion and expense, that is why they are eagerly sought after forever!
    – Divine Discourse, May 17, 1968.
Virtue is the salt of life and selfless Love is the highest virtue.
Develop selfless love and share it. - Baba

Love for God can grow only in a well-ploughed heart, free from weeds. So prepare your heart through Namasmarana (constant recital of the divine name). This is called Chitta shuddhi yoga - The path of Consciousness-cleansing. Charge every second of time with the Divine current that emanates from the name. Have the name of the Lord always on your tongue and in your breath, ever. That will evoke His form, as the inner core of everything, every thought and turn of events. That will provide you with His company, and contact with His unfailing energy and bliss. That is the Satsanga (good association) that gives you maximum benefit. Converse with God who is in you, and derive courage and consolation from Him. He is the Guru most interested in your progress. Do not seek the Guru outside you, in hermitages or holy places. The God in you is father, mother, preceptor, and friend. God is Love; live in Love - that is the direction indicated by the sages.
    – Divine Discourse, Mar 01, 1968.
Fill your heart with the light of love so that the evil qualities of hate,
greed and conceit find no place therein. - Baba

Today people talk harsh words which hurt the feelings of others. If you see inappropriate sights, listen to bad talk, and indulge in unholy activities, you are investing time in activities which ultimately ruin you. When you misuse your senses, how can you expect to be happy and healthy? In order to enjoy perfect health, you must make sacred use of your senses. You may be a pauper or a millionaire, but God has given each one of you five senses and a heart (hridaya). Make proper use of them and sanctify your lives. That heart which is filled with compassion (daya) is hridaya. As you think, so you become (Yad bhavam tad bhavati). In order to sanctify your senses, you should utilise them in the service of others. If you cannot undertake any service activity, at least speak softly and sweetly. You cannot always oblige, but you can speak always obligingly.
    - Divine Discourse, Jan 19, 2002.
Practice sadhana relentlessly to discipline your mind and to develop
your moral and mental strength. - Baba

Any work done in this world with the attitude of love will be an achievement. The heart in which there is no love is certain to be the paradise of wickedness. Whatever you do, do it with love. The Gopikas prayed, “Oh Krishna, play Your sweet flute and sow the seeds of love in the desert of loveless hearts. Let the rain of love fall on earth and make the rivers of love flow continuously.” Therefore, start the day with love, spend the day with love, fill the day with love, and end the day with love - this is the way to God. You read such sacred and inspiring quotes every day, and see them on the boards, but are they getting imprinted in your hearts? Can your hunger be relieved, by just reading the names of many different sweets? So also, by merely reading sacred quotes or by listening to it will not purify your mind. Practice and experience the results!
    - Divine Discourse, Nov 22, 1975.
Love can conquer anything. Selfless, pure and unalloyed love will lead you to God. - Baba

No living being, except the human, has been endowed with intelligence and discriminative faculty, heightened to this degree, in order to enable it to visualise the Atma (Divine Self). This is why humanity is acclaimed as the crown of creation and why the scriptures (sastras) proclaim that the chance of being born as a human is a rare piece of good fortune. People have the qualifications needed to seek the cause of creation; they have in them the urge and the capacity. Many great people have directed their intelligence toward the discovery of the omnipresent Lord (Atma) and succeeded in visualising that Divine Principle. However, amongst millions of people in the Universe, only few have been able to visualise the Universal Atma or the Self in All. The purpose and meaning of the process of living is the attainment of the Supreme Lord (Atma).
    - Sathya Sai Vahini, Ch 1, 'The Supreme Reality'.
All are One, Be alike to everyone. - Baba

You derive exaltation while worshipping a carved stone idol in the temple. How much more exalted should you be while worshipping the self-same God residing in the temple-hearts of the men and women amongst you! And not merely in the human frames; God lives in every bird, beast, tree, pebble and speck of dust! Remember, the grace of God cannot be won by merely repeating His glories! Recite the name of your chosen Lord, with its halo of meaning clear in your mind and soaked into your acts and feelings. The Americans who sang bhajans today paid attention to the tune and its beat; they also learnt the meaning of each song and sang it from their heart, respecting its spirit with bha-va (feelings), ra-ga (tune) and tha-la (rhythm) - Bha-ra-tha - that entitles them to be called Bharatiyas! The culture of ‘Bharat’ is built on rati (attachment) to Bhagawan; so, any person, independent of their race, who is attached to the Lord is a Bharatiya!
    - Divine Discourse, Jul 19, 1970.
Your heart is like a vessel. Fill it with qualities of Truth, Love and Sacrifice. - Baba
