India is home to 1.4 billion people – almost one-sixth of the world’s population – who belong to a variety of ethnicities and religions. While 94% of the world’s Hindus live in India, there also are substantial populations of Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and adherents of folk religions.

India’s massive population includes not only the vast majority of the world’s Hindus, but also the second-largest group of Muslims within a single country, behind only Indonesia.

By 2050, India’s Muslim population will grow to 311 million, making it the largest Muslim population in the world, according to Pew Research Center projections.

Still, Indian Muslims are projected to remain a minority in their country, making up about 18% of the total population at midcentury, while Hindus figure to remain a majority (about 77%).

For most Indians, faith is important: In a 2015 Pew Research Center survey, eight-in-ten Indians said religion is very important in their lives.

2India is a religiously pluralistic and multiethnic democracy – the largest in the world. Its constitution provides for freedom of conscience and the right to profess, practice and propagate religion. It has protections for minorities against discrimination on the grounds of religion or caste (a strict social stratification based on Hinduism). In 1976, the constitution was amended, officially making the country a secular state. At the same time, a directive in the constitution prohibits the slaughter of cows – an animal Hindus hold sacred – which each state has the authority to enforce. Currently, 21 out of 29 states have prison sentences for the act.

Muslims becoming a majority in India is getting a reality...Between 1947 & 2050 Muslim population has grown from 6% to 18%...Now we can apply Mathematics to see when these Muslims will become 50%....In North India Muslims are breeding like pigs!! I was shocked when my Uber driver of 24 years had 4 kids & he plans to have another 6...His father has 10 siblings

Why only mathematics: Reason, logic, statistics everything went out of the door when Islamophobia overtook mind.

At this rate, the PIO population in the USA will be more than whites. The earth will expand to include the sun etc, etc. Imagination running wild.

LET US COME TO REALITY

Muslims in India have a much higher total fertility rate (TFR) compared to that of other religious communities in the country. Because of higher birthrates the percentage of Muslims in India has risen from about 10% in 1951 to 14.23% by 2013. The Muslim population growth rate from 1991-01 was higher by more than of the total growth compared to that of Hindus. However, since 1991, the largest decline in fertility rates among all religious groups in India has occurred among Muslims. The Population Growth rate is also attributable to the fact that majority of Muslim populations are concentrated in the states that are lagging behind in social reforms and services which have shown higher birth rates than other states. However, the Sachar Committee Report shows that the Muslim Population Growth has slowed down and will be on par with national averages. The Sachar Committee Report estimated that the Muslim proportion will stabilise at between 17% and 21% of the Indian population by 2100.

That is when J&K has 98% Muslim population.

One thing is certain. Unless major natural calamities or world wars, by end of this century, Islam and Christianity only may survive, with series of battles for supremacy.
