MAHALAYAM Day 1 DOs and DON’Ts

1. Clean house and kitchen
2. Don’t use onion or garlic in food
3. Have bath and cook
4. Use veg that are usually used for srardham
5. White rice dhal and little payasam everyday
6. On the days of thidhi of our pithrus cook vazhaikai
And vadai along with other food
6. Do tharpanam and then do regular Pooja
7. Don’t eat outside food
8. Morning meals after tharpanam and food to crow and night tiffin
9. Don’t eat previous day’s food. Only fresh food
10. If any Brahmin man or woman you can give them dhothi or saree and if they come in the morning food
11. Don’t sleep in the afternoon. Due to health reasons if anyone needs to take rest don’t use bed.
These are a few things that we should certainly follow for just 15 days for our pithrus are to be worshipped and blessings are very much needed for our generations.
And finally those who don’t have parents or one of their parents only need to follow these rules. The following vegetables can be used for cooking

Karunai

Keerai except murungai
Vendaikkai
Kose
Carrot
Vazhaithandu
Vellarikkai
Kathirikkai (some don’t)
Peerkangai
