Weekend Reflections

Another weekend [july 28 and29 2018]

1. Rains continuing unabated dislocating life with weathermen predicting that it will ease off next week. Roads caving in NCR ,under bridges filled with rain water,

drainages giving way, old buildings and some under construction collapsing fill news in TV and newspapers.

2. Only other news in local pages is of women getting molested in vehicles, lonely roads and in apartments.Delhi has become a jungle as far as womens" safety is

concerned. Mostly those from east and north east and others-foreigners who are new in delhi get hurt. Women trafficking is also becoming a serious issue.South

India is far safer.Women still get respected.

3.Inflation -food and fuel price increases with lorry owners strike causing disruption in supplies of essentials is making vegetables out of reach for the poor. Middle

class is cutting down on purchases of essentials. Cooking at home is far expensive than eating out.Domestic Labour costs shooting up besides labour class bunking

too often because of weather conditions is making life difficult

4. With all this our stock markets are booming with sensex and nifty touching new highs. On cold analysis it is seen that about a half a dozen shares with high

weightage in index are doing well and most others are down. Shares of nationalised banks getting recapitalised with infusion of funds from Govt are shooting up by

as much as 8 to 10%..Buying these instead of having Fixed deposits in them is a better option. One can get more money in two weeks in shares of these banks than

FDs in one year.lol

Most gullible investors have lost more money in the market buying many small cap and mid cap shares. Share market rewards only high performers stocks and

punishes fast those with bad results. Only very careful investors make money.

.

I have wondered what youngsters do on weekends.

Most working in MNCs have a saturday night out .They drink with buddies [both sexes] well past midnight and drive home riding three on two wheelors with horns blaring

Some well off types use four wheelors with as many as possible getting into one vehicle. Most have a problem getting into their living places without attracting much

attention. Many with families sleep off in flats of their bachelor friends.Next morning is bad for them . They drink a lot of lime . The worst over drunk throw up making a

mess.Only with a lot of experience one becomes a discerning drinker and learns how to hold a drink. It is quite apparent that the work pressures of MNCs are driving

youngsters downhill. Most who do not keep abreast of latest development in their field become a drop out within a decade. The burn out is maximum in late thirties.

If these are not careful in management of money they suffer after losing their jobs. The attrition rate is very high. The high earning types are fired to make way for lowly

paid youngsters to cut costs. There is no protection for loss of job . Govt does not care for IT workers. They have no social security and can be fired at will. Some try to float

their own start up only to fail losing more money. Very few are successes and maintain their head. They at late thirties are no better than some senior citizens living on doles

from govt and relations

How many senior citizens can move with the times and identify with hopes and aspirations of the young.?

We only try to thrust our belief and views based on our experience of eighties and nineties and are hopelessly outdated to meet the present day challenges.

We force old caste and religious prejudices on them and try to make them biased towards those following rules of other castes and religion.

We want to foist a paternalistic way of thinking and make them biased towards women folk .

We are just unable to train our boys to give women a space in society where they can contribute their knowledge and skills for betterment of society.

Times have changed. We seniors cannot change , at least we can leave them alone to do their own thing.

They are better equipped to face modern day challenges on their own .

Do people actually make their lives so complicated?

I don't think so, Renu!! :)

Probably, Krish Sir has a couple of lamenting seniors around him!! ;)
LOL.Seniors around me are living it up.

I appear to be the only lamenting senior bugging my next generation.

I somehow wrongly think that I am responsible for all their foolish actions.

Thats carrying the resposibility burden too far....

Another weekend 4th and 5th Aug 2018.
1.Threat of floods in delhi has receded as there were no rains for two days. This was nearest to flooding since 1986.Most from low lying areas of east delhi are returning to

their homes. It is the poor from these colonies who suffer when their slums get flooded. Then there is outbreak of diseases like dengue, malaria.Local clinics are flooded with

youngsters who have contracted some virus or other.

2.The attempt to identify foreigners in assam is catching eyeballs . Identifying two generations starting with grandparents who settled in assam before 1971 [cut off date]

thru digital means and expecting all there to match their family profile with digital profile appears fool hardy. The verification process is very painful. It is left to affected

families to match their family profile with digital profile. Many may not able to do this as they are not computer literate . Ultimately many might become stateless citizens

after half a century.

3.Best parliamentarians award for five years got announced. Not a single MP from south or west was in the list.It appears that TN politicians are interested only in local

politics. There are none making a mark in delhi.

4.The way cauvery is flowing full everywhere in tamilnadu, many got to see water even in small streams which are off shoot of cauvery. Women celebrated Aadi 18 with

offerings. It might be good for farming but will every one get good drinking water and sanitation in villages?.

Donald Trump is making indians in US forced bachelors denying H1B visa to their spouses.Still most would not think of returning to india for good.It is not wise to stay where

one is not wanted.India has a lot to offer these indians . Why not get out gracefully and return to their roots? Asean countries are better for TN residents offering a lifestyle

they are used to .I personally prefer singapore. It has no poer or water issues. They have a pretty good transportation systen with Metro rail and bus. It is very safe for

women.chennai is four hours by flight from there.

In case things get bad , one can try australia or newzealand from singapore.

Another weekend-sunday 19th august 2018

1.Kerala under water .There is delayed response from the centre and the states.Tamiladu is not faraway and getting surplus water from neighbouring states.Hope TN is saved

from floods.

2.Was in chennai during MKs funeral and ended up in delhi exactly for ABVs funeral. When I was a student in early sixties, heard ABV in ramjas college .Hindi group there invited

him.A brilliant orator . Kaul whose family he adopted was professor of philosophy in the same college.I have come across him.It appears to be a small world.

3.China and US economic confrontation is affecting emerging markets. Turkey lira going downhill and indian rupee going above 70rs/dollar are feeling the pain. When

elephants roll it is the grass that gets hurt. Only a few FMCG shares and supply chain /logistics companies are doing well.Real estate market is in doldrums .Food and fuel

inflation is affecting all .Growth appears to be a dream being sold to the gullible public. Pensioners are bound to be badly hurt.It is better to eat out in hotels which enjoy

economies of scale than cooking home.Due to the weather many children and senior citizen are visiting doctors who are making a killing .

4.Anna univ is in news again for the wrong reasons. Revaluation marks scandal is raising a stink.Engg is losing its sheen. Many colleges are not getting students willing to

do engg courses.IT jobs have ceased to be paying. The starting salaries have not changed for the past seven years .A coterie has evolved to keep salaries very low.Dreams

for youngsters now is to somehow get a foreign posting and vanish after going abroad. Most do not see any future here.

Your pst #9 and Post#10 is sending crowd currents.
What do the your IT graduates to do?
Stay home in low paying jobs or suffer foreign posting where you may not be welcome.
US is going to be tuff.
