US 'zero tolerance' immigration policy firestorm: All you need to know about Donald Trump executive order ending family separation

For now, family separation at the US border of (illegal) children and parents under a newly minted 'zero tolerance' policy has come to a screeching halt but multiple US immigration firestorms face do-or-die battles this week.

Here’s a guide to following all the action on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C.

Trump ends family separation at border

Already checked off the list is the big climbdown from US President Donald Trump Wednesday afternoon. He bowed to all-round pressure from anxious allies and including from his wife Melania Trump and signed an executive order ending the process of separating children from families after they are detained crossing the U.S. border illegally.

Donald Trump is indisputably the worst president in American history

George W. Bush was a terrible president. He fumbled everything from Katrina to Iraq to the economy. But even he wasn't all bad — his AIDS initiative in Africa was a blessing to that continent, for instance. Jimmy Carter is remembered as a disastrous president (possibly unfairly) but he's had a post-presidency that's proved him an uncommonly decent man. Lyndon Johnson's presidency collapsed in the Vietnam War — but hey, at least he spearheaded the momentous Civil Rights Act. The point is that even lousy presidents have a silver lining ... right? Well, maybe not. It is increasingly difficult to find one nice thing to say about President Trump.

Let's just look at the last month: In that time he and his administration have picked fights with allies, buttered up dictators, accelerated a nascent trade war, and created — purely for the sake of cruelty and cynical political leverage — a humanitarian disaster on our border with Mexico. Oh, and in his spare time, he's used his Twitter account to undermine the rule of law in hopes it will save him from prosecution.

The “Late Night” host tore into Trump for his self-congratulatory tone while signing an executive order amending his “zero tolerance” immigration policy that has sparked outrage in recent weeks as thousands of immigrant children have been separated from their detained parents seeking asylum at the southern border. Trump’s order, which could face a legal battle, plans to keep detained families together, but it likely does not apply to the more than 2,300 children who have already been separated from their parents.

After playing a clip of Trump signing the executive order and telling reporters that there would be a lot of “happy people” as a result of him doing so, Colbert had one question.

″Happy people?” Colbert asked. “Wait, are you signing your resignation?”

Absolutely trump is the worst ever. He is most xenophobic bigoted racist anti muslim and white supremacist there is.

But how we do deal with the foolish Indians particularly a lot of NRIs with voting power supporting him ??

It is time NRIs are called out on their support for trump. They are clearly influenced by the anti Muslim retorhic of the right wing Hindu groups.

Ps: I travel often between india and USA Now, and it is Maha karmam that I have to put up with the junk excitement of the NRIs supporting this idiot.

Purely from the point of view of enacting/passing communal and discriminatory laws, sonia led UPA is several times worse than Trump. Yet, we did not see any such stringent criticism of UPA when it ruled. May be fear-factor.... or is it because Trump is anti-muslim and that is a big no no but Sonia's anti-hindu laws are kosher...

USA, Trump included, is much more secular than India has ever been. It would be better if NRIs realize this. It would be stupid of them to align and show themselves as supporters of one party or the other purely from the muslim angle.

Well said.

Not sure if its right wing or anti muslim. They vote Trump because they dont want more Indians coming and taking jobs from their kids. Again they show their class mentality. Guys in visa status are looked down by those green cards or citizens or master degree holders . But as you said, its kanravi when they sing praises about Trump without knowing what he really means.

I have one good thing to say about Trump.

He is right to start a trade war with China. China has been cheating many other countries for decades now.
