This article is from Yahoo news.

While the opposition are aggressively campaigning against BJP, with a motive to create different image of BJP for their own benefit, here is an article that deals with facts.

Perhaps a sample case of Party’s growing influence among the general public.

A triple talaq victim learnt to love. Hope more will join to love

How This Young Muslim Single Mother Stopped Worrying About Hindutva And Learnt To Love The BJP

KANPUR, Uttar Pradesh — How does SofiaAhmed, a 25-year-old Sunni woman, reconcile being the new Muslim face of theUttar Pradesh wing of the Bharatiya Janta Party; a party whose politics islargely based on demonising the Muslim community?
ForAhmed, a striking woman with blue-green eyes and brown hair with goldhighlights, the answer is Triple Talaq.

"The worst day of my life was the day my husband gave me talaq, but it also turned out to be the best day," Ahmed recalled in a recent conversation. "Irealized my capabilities after the divorce. Today, I'm strong and independent.I'm achieving things."

In a span of two years, Ahmed, a single mother divorced by the triple talaq provision of Muslim personal law, has gone from being a battered bride to a member of the Uttar Pradesh State Minorities Commission, a statutory body chosen by the state government headed by Yogi Adityanath: a man accusedof inciting communalriots and addressing public rallies threatening violence against Ahmed's community.

Her dramatic rise encapsulates a moment in India's religious politics where theBJP's strategy to use particularly patriarchal aspects of Muslim personal law to weaken the the clergy, has opened up space for young women like Ahmed.

Triple Talaq Victim From Kanpur Appointed as Member of UP State Minority Commission

Sophia Ahmed is the first person from her family to join the BJP.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lucknow, February 6: Triple talaq victim, Sofia Ahmed, from Kanpur has been appointed as a member of Uttar Pradesh state minorities commission, the UP government said in a press release on Tuesday. Along with the 24-year-old resident of Swarupnagar, Kanpur, the government has also appointed seven other members to the UP State Minority Commission.

Sofia had joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) almost a year ago and she is also one of the petitioners challenging the instant divorce practice among Muslims before the Supreme Court .

She was married to a man who belonged to a political family in Kanpur and her relationship ended after her husband gave her triple talaq.
After the Supreme Cout verdict, Sofia said that her decision of joining the BJP was not wrong. By 3-2 ruling, the Supreme Court had ruled that triple talaq, as practiced by Muslims in the country, violated the right to equality enshrined in the Constitution.

“This judgment is going to make a big change in how Muslim women think about the BJP. I think women will realize that PM Modi stood up for us and it was not just an empty promise,” she had said after the SC verdict quashing instant talaq.

    Sir,

India is a country consisting 29 States and seven Union territories with population of certain religions minority in some States and majority in some.

When such a legislation is implemented, one cannot expect everyone to welcome it and accept it whole heatedly. For more it is about savings and protecting 'Shariat Laws' And for the Government, its view may be perhaps that such practices, violates fundamental rights of women as guaranteed by the Constitution.

As such, there was mixed reaction.

There are certain section, which are looking at it as women's right

There are certain section, which are against absolute power being given to men

There are women's rights group engaged in counter campaign

There may be a section which consider such legislation as a reform.

I am sharing news item which depicts the image of celebration by a group of Muslim women welcoming the legislation which speak volume.

Muslim women welcome 'Triple Talaq Bill'

Muslim women and activists in Ahmedabad have hailed the new Bill, albeit a few minor concerns continue to remain.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AHMEDABAD: After the landmark judgement criminalizing the practice of ‘Triple Talaq’ by the Supreme Court of India, the Lok Sabha on Thursday passed the Triple Talaq Bill, making the practice of instant triple talaq illegal with up to three years in jail for the offender. Muslim women and activists in Ahmedabad have hailed the new bill, albeit, a few minor concerns continue to remain.

“It is indeed a big day for us as we had been demanding a law for a long time. Since the government and opposition are together in passing the bill, its historic value has all the more increased. It reflects clear political will. There are certain concerns pertaining to the framework of the bill, wherein we will be seeking a format for divorce and other provisions for the women victims,” said Zakia Soman, founding member, Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan, who was at the forefront of the movement against triple talaq.

Most women have welcomed the move and feel it is a progressive move by the government. “The move puts women on an equal footing and protects their rights. It also gives them the power to seek subsistence allowance for herself and her minor children,” said Noorajahan Diwan, a social worker.

However, some of the women have also expressed concerns over the bill’s provisions. Khairunisha Pathan, women’s rights activist, said, “The bill is indeed a great move in the interest of Muslim women and their rights. However, There are concerns whether the situation of women will actually improve with the bill. The law needs to be stricter to ensure she is entitled to subsistence allowance and doesn’t face a social boycott in her family.”
