Perhaps it is the turn of the other religion now. It is not against a movie but against a song

[h=3]It is reported that according to the complainants, the song ‘Manikya Malaraya Poovi’ contains an ‘objectionable’ reference to Prophet Muhammad’s wife.[/h]

[h=2]An FIR has been lodged against Oru Adaar Love song, Manikya Malaraya Poovi, in Hyderabad. The video of the song featuring actor Priya Prakash Varrier has gone viral on social media.[/h]The Hyderabad police on Wednesday booked the makers of the forthcoming Malayalam film Oru Adaar Love after a complaint by a group of locals that a song in the film hurt the sentiments of Muslims.

In Mumbai, the Raza Academy, a group representing the Barelvi branch of the Sunnis, said that it had written to the Mumbai police commissioner and the censor board asking them to edit portions of the song ‘Manikya Malaraya Poovi’ because they found it “objectionable”. The body said it would launch a nationwide agitation if its demands were not met.

The song, featuring overnight sensation Priya Prakash Varrier, has gone viral since it was launched on the internet on Friday.
Police in Hyderabad filed a case against the makers under section 295A of Indian Penal Code (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), Hyderabad’s deputy commissioner of police (south zone) V Satyanarayana said.

  • Google's translation feature may have inadvertently caused some Muslim groups outside Kerala to take offence over a 'viral' Malayalam song featuring actor Priya Prakash Varrier
  • They believe the song hurts some Muslims' religious sentiments and refers to Prophet Muhammad's wife in a derogatory manner
'Manikya Malaraya Poovi' is a Mappila song, or a traditional Muslim song from the Moplah, or Malabar, region of Kerala. It describes the love between the Prophet Muhammad and his first wife Khadeeja.

The way the song's first two stanzas are translated in Kerala - where the song is from - is in this manner:

"A woman is like a garland made of rubies,
Her highness, Khadeeja Beevi,
She lived in the holy city of Mecca,
Like a regal dignitary.

She has summoned Muhammad, the last Prophet,
Sent him on a trade-expedition.
(But) the very first moment of their meeting,
Her heart desired him."

However, if one uses the 'Google translate' feature, the Malayalam words are rendered mostly as gobbledygook, with some troublesome words - like "moaning" and "Khadeejabibi --- for the price, for sale", featuring in the translation.

"The song written by MA Jabbar is sung during marriages and every celebration in Malabar region of North Kerala," said 'Oru Adaar Love' director
Omar Lulu, to PTI news agency.

If it hasn't been objectionable all this time, "how has it become objectionable now," asked Lulu.

Well...nothing beats the lyrics of Bint E Dil from Padmaavat.

There is a line that goes..

Aatish Kada Adaaon Se
Jal Uthega Aapke
Deedar E Tarka Hijab!

It compares the continous fiery passion( that will burn up the veil of wetness of the eyes) to the continous fire of Aatish Kada.

Aatish Kada is the sacred temple of Zorastrians in Iran where the sacred fire still burns.

Ok..fair enough that one can have pure feelings like sacred fire but in the movie Khilji is showing engaging in lustful acts with a woman and his gay lover Kafur too was displaying his emotions.

So can this song be considered " hurting" to sentiments of those who hold Aatish Kada with high regard?
