Gujarat Polls 2017: EC issues show cause notice to Rahul Gandhi for interview to Guj

Alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct by Rahul Gandhi……

Now this interview is the ‘flash point’ between these two parties.

EC issues show cause notice to Rahul Gandhi for interview to Gujarati channel

Gandhi, in an interview to Gujarat Samachar TV, said, “This election is not about Rahul Gandhi or Narendra Modi. This is about the voice of Gujarat. They are not talking about real issues. There is no talk about Gujarat’s vikas. Instead, they insulted Manmohan Singh.”

The Election Commission on Wednesday issued a show cause notice to Congress president-elect Rahul Gandhi for giving an interview to a Gujarati channel, a day before the second phase of polls, in violation of the model code of conduct. The EC has asked Gandhi to reply by December 18. “Explain why action should not be taken against you for violating provisions of MCC, failing which Commission will decide matter without any further reference to you,” said EC.

The Election Commission also directed the Chief Electoral Officer of Gujarat to register an FIR against all the media houses for airing the interview of Rahul Gandhi, which was a violation of the Representation of the People Act. The EC said that all the TV channels that violated the provisions of Section 126(1)(b) have been directed to stop airing the interview immediately.

All eyes are now set on the exit poll predictions....

Both the parties are confident after an high-voltage political campaign..

How To Read The Gujarat Results, Whichever Way They Turn Out

With the second and last phase of voting in the Gujarat assembly elections set to end today (14 December), we will need to wait another four days for the results. We may get an inkling of what is in store after the end of voting today itself, when news channels will discuss the exit polls, but if these look indeterminate, we will have to wait till the morning of the 18th for a final verdict.

There are four results possible: a clear BJP victory, a narrow BJP win, a clear Congress victory, or a narrow Congress win. It is unlikely that we will have a hung house since there are only two parties in the fray.

Put simply, these four results effectively boil down to two: a BJP win or a Congress win. The only doubt is about the clarity of the win for either side.

Whichever way the Gujarat voter tilts, it will have a huge impact on national politics, economic policy and market trends.

From the point of view of stability, a BJP win is what the market wants, and it will be good for policy and medium-term economic stability. Even if the BJP wins narrowly, which will give opponents some time to crow about Narendra Modi’s “declining popularity”, the market will shrug off this setback and continue as though nothing happened after a few days. And the BJP, having avoided the embarrassment of losing Modi’s home state, could continue pretty much as before with its broad economic policies, which are more or less in the right direction.

No need for predictions on the outcome of elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. As on today BJP has no one to defeat them in these two States. The results on Monday the 18th will confirm this with the correct numbers.

Now, Congress has to spend time to search for some imaginary reasons for their defeat to convince the people. Already their wise men have started blaming the use of EVMs and Mr Modi " violating the code of conduct " by a" road show" after voting.

Also Congress and their supporters have a reason to stall the functioning of Parliament which opens the winter session today.

    You are right sir,

Rahul Ganghi entered Gujarat Election campaign with more vigour and aggression and with great expectation to change things

Went all out … blaming Election Commission, EVM tampering, etc etc

So, as predicted, it is not going to be pats on his back, but brickbats….

His first task as President of Congress Party will be to cover up his Party’s failure to secure majority….

Politics in India is a strange game. The failed Political outfits spend their mid night oil to find faults with the ruling Party which were voted to power by the people. The failed Political parties are supported by some of the Media to get viewership. For example look at the importance given by media by interviewing single member of CPI, JD(S), or Expelled leader of JD(U). Recently I heard the
Congress leader in Lok Sabha advising BJP to discuss with opposition to run the Parliament ! He seem to have forgotten the power of Speaker to discipline the working of Lok Sabha.

Congress leaders spend most of the press interviews in finding faults of BJP, instead of expressing their own programs.

First the EC should be strengthened legally with more powers to discipline the Political parties. They should develop zero tolerance towards corrupt practices during elections.
The recent filing of petition in SC on use of EVMs (dismissed by SC), is the best example of questioning the competence of a Constitutionally appointed body.

Results of the prestige battle for our PM Modi in his home State will b out tomorrow.

And for the new President of Congress Party, Rahul Gandhi, it may prove a ‘litmus test’.

ALL EYES ON GUJARAT AS STAGE SET FOR COUNTING TOMORROW

Counting of votes will be held tomorrow for the Gujarat Assembly polls, considered a prestige battle for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his home state and a litmus test for new Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

While the BJP is seeking a sixth straight term in office, the Congress is aiming to stage a comeback in power after being in the opposition for over two decades.

The results are expected to have a bearing on the 2019 parliamentary polls also as Modi had come to power in 2014, based on the Gujarat 'model of development'.

The much-awaited results of the keenly fought elections will be announced tomorrow when the counting of votes will be held at 37 centres across the state's 33 districts, amidst tight security.

The voting was held following an acrimonious campaign, where both the main political parties indulged in no-holds- barred attacks on each others.

Modi led the campaign for the BJP, while Rahul Gandhi was the pivot of the Congress' electioneering.

During the campaign, Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah trained guns on the Congress on issues like Ram Temple, alleged Pakistani interference in the Gujarat polls and (suspended Congress leader) Mani Shankar Aiyar's remarks.

Gandhi persistently attacked Modi and the BJP for "not talking about the future of Gujarat" and skipping key issues being faced by the people of the state.
