As far as I know, 'Mangili poNdugaL' is done only ONCE in twelve months.

So, for both the weddings, the first one in Nov' 17, is enough.

No need to do once more in Jan '18.

Smt. Raji Ram

'Sumangali prArthanai' is done for the ancestors, yearly once. Usually, if a lady passes away as a sumangali, her son(s) have this

ceremony on the day NEXT to her srAddham. We had every year, in this way, for our paternal grandma.

There is no need for two ceremonies in the same year, for the same family. :)

Sometimes due to financial reasons if we are not doing something as per old days, we are also not getting the benefits just like Shrardham done by elders and younger's participate. Thus we loose the benefit because of elders. (Elders means brothers or sisters not ancestors).Sumangali prathana also brings real benefits , if done individually (Yearly once).

Dear Sowmya,

Now a days, sAstrigaLs insist that brothers should do srAddham individually. But, when I was young, all my chithapAs

used to join for our grand parents' srAddham in our sweet home, with their families and after grandma's yearly rituals,

we had the sumangali prArthanai, on the very next day. Even now a few families follow this.

Ram's two elder brother's daughters were married within the span of 6 months and all of us assembled in one brother's

house for the sumangali prArthanai, a few days before the first wedding. :pray2:
