Man arrested for cheating over 100 women using matrimonial sites
A man who is suspected to have cheated over 100 women in Bengaluru and some parts of Karnataka of their money landed in police net a few days ago. The man is accused of befriending women on matrimonial sites and extorting money after promising to marry them.
The Bagalur police received a complaint from a woman stating that a man had cheated her of money after promising to marry her. Following investigation, the police nabbed Sadath Khan alias Preetham Kumar on June 21.
During interrogation it was found that Sadath Khan had cheated many other women. According to the police, Khan would befriend spinsters and divorcees through matrimonial websites and identify himself as a government employee.
After interacting with a woman for a few days, he would express his desire to marry her. “He would take them out and make them spend money on him. He has also borrowed large sum of money under different pretexts from various women,” said a police officer.
When the Bagalur police started collecting information about him, they found that several cases had registered against him in K.R. Puram, Jayanagar and Vidyaranyapuram police stations in Bengaluru and in other districts too.
“He keeps changing names to cheat women. He did his schooling in Hassan and pursued his ITI course in Siddeshwara College, Hassan in 2007. He is an alcoholic and was thrown out of the house by his father,” said a police officer.
