Yesterday 11-1-17 was a significant day. Koodarai valli for vaishnavites and arudhra darshan for saivites came on the same day. Further Margazhi thiruvadhirai is the star of Lord Danvantri. Boiled milk with ealichi powder, kunkuma poo, sugar should be done as neivedyam to danvantri and should be distributed to the devotees who visit temple which will yield a healthy mind and body.

Arudhra Dharshan

Thillai-Nataraja-407101.jpg Arudhra Dharshan falls in the month of Margazhi on the full moon night with the star Thiruvathirai falling on that day. It is in celebration of the ecstatic dance of Lord Shiva in the form of Nataraja as depicted in the temple at Chidmbaram. Lord Shiva's dance symbolizes that movement is the essence of our Universe and He resides in each particle of the Universe and is the source of our energy.
Taking a glimpse of Arudhra Dharshan gains us Lord's Grace to transcend this world and seek eternity. Thiruvathirai Kali is the neivedyam offered to the Lord on this day.

Sambandar sung in Tevaram during 7th-9th century, how Thiruvathirai celebrated at Kabaleeshwaram (present day Mylapore, Chennai

"ஊர்திரை வேலை யுலாவும் உயர்மலைக்
கூர்தரு வேல்வல்லார் கோற்றங் கோள் சேரிதனில்
கார்தரு சோலைக் கபாலீச்சரம் அமர்ந்தான்
ஆதிரைநாள் காணாதே போதியார் பூம்பாவாய்"

Appar wrote a separate pathigam (10 songs) in Tevaram, in the name Thiruvathirai Pathigam which describes the importance and celebrations of Thiruvathirai.
In 4th Tirumurai he sang about the celebration in Tiruvarur

"முத்து விதான மணிப்பொற் கவரி முறையாலே
பக்தர்க ளோடு பாவையர் சூழப் பலிப்பின்னே
வித்தகக் கோல வெண்டலை மாலை விரதிகள்
அத்தனாரூ ராதிரை நாளா லதுவண்ணம்"

Thanks for detailed answer. Arudhra darshan and danvantri's star coincide every year. The other one is Koodarai valli came on same day. That is what I mentioned.
