This is the English version (in prose) of a Tamil poem that I had written.
The theme is contrasting mindsets of the working husband and a housewife or the working woman and a housewife.
The bird that has gone out
to fetch prey for its dear ones
wanders throughout the day,
longing when it can return home.
On the contrary,
the bird that stayed back
keeps on nurturing its wish
when it can go out and
fly wherever it wants to
with unfettered freedom.
The idea is both are oblivious to the comfort they enjoy at present and only long for what they do not have.
Here, the helplessness in choosing their way is manifest.
If roles could be reversed that easily in human life, will there be
any unfulfilled desire?
